I get especially irritated when some one sneezes without bothering to cover up when inside an enclosed area like a lift, an air-conditioned bus or a train carriage!
It is just nasty!
And if that fella happen to be some ogre from some unknown mountain, and continues to blow out his/her snot and wipe it with the fingers followed by a fling to get rid of it, I will go over and tell the bugger off!
it is basic courtesy to cover your mouth when you sneeze. I am sure all of us are taught that when we were kids. Yet it is never practiced.
I will understand if the sneeze came suddenly and you are caught unawares. But usually, people will attempt to cover.
Problem is, some people just cannot be bothered!
what would you do when you encounter such instances of uncouth behavior?

I understand your concern about this because I have experienced this behavior from some people in the office or in a few public transportation. It is rude not to cover one's mouth whenever he/she coughs or sneezes. Whatever kind of sickness that person has will eventually transfer to other people and it's particularly a health hazard to children. If I encounter that when I have my kid with me, I will actually tell that person to please cover his/her mouth because my child might get sick because of that irresponsible act.

It is really basic courtesy to cover one's mouth when sneezing or coughing. I've always taught this is something basic for everyone but sadly, it apparently doesn't seem so. I'm not really sure why of late people are becoming less courteous. I'm fortunate though that I've rarely encountered people sneezing beside me, but I do tell the person politely to use his or her handkerchief or something to cover their mouth.

There's nothing much i can do actually. I won't bother to tell them off since they are more likely to do it again. All i can do is to not act like them, covering my mouth or nose when i sneeze There are some disgusting ones i saw on train, they wipe their mucus on the pole meant for holding on and whoever's gonna touch it, is going to regret and sure to curse at that inconsiderate person

Oh I hate hate hate when people don't cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough. What is worse is when they don't even make an attempt to cover their mouth. I was in a restaurant one time a couple of years ago. It was a buffet type restaurant in a tourist town near where I live and it was very busy. There was someone standing behind me that just let it fly. I was so disgusted that I sit my plate down and we left and went somewhere else.

One of the reason why i always carry with me a hanky is to cover my mouth whenever i yawn or sneeze. It's also to cover my mouth when the surrounding is too dusty or the public transports passing by us emits so much smoke.
In addition, i cover my nose including my mouth whenever someone sneezes with a cover or not.

Well first it is respectful to do these things but of course not everyone has respect. Now when im by myself or just in my room i will sneexe and not cover up because im by myself and dont really care of course. Now when im out at the mall or something i try to hurry to get a tissue from my purse but if i cant i just use my elbow and then might go to the bathroom to wash it off of course. If i have to blow my nose or something like that i will go to the bathroom but sometimes i usually have tissues with me. I have bad allergies so carrying stuff is normal for me and i have respect for the poeple around me unlike some people do.
Well if i was around someone doing this i would just mind my business and hope that i dont get sick too because of someones nasty germs of course. I try to not get sick and just take me medicine and vitamins everyday and hope for the best of course.

I have came across people who are not bothered about it.. I think they are not aware of such things or they don't have a handkerchief ... now a days information of these things are also shown on TV for the awareness of diseases that can spread.. I think we should tell them in front of the public so they get embarrassed and remember to do that next time..

Yes, I have encountered similar incidents, sometimes it's coughing openly right into your face in public transports and it's more than annoying. It is not easy to get sick. Medicines are expensive and you miss your work, etc. People should be more considerate of others by doing what you said, covering the mouth when sneezing or coughing.

I do cover my mouth when I know I will be going to sneeze out. Covering is important especially when you are with the crowd. This also makes other people comfortable about you since you know what to do already. But there are other people who doesn't know and just simply blow out their nose. How gross of them. What I do is I don't turn my face to them. I just simply cover my mouth or whole face of me instead.

Well it is a very rude behaviour for sneezing in front of other people without covering it up with hand or other. I'm never taught by anyone to cover my mouth and nose when sneezing but i realize it is a rude behaviour and always cover my mouth and nose with hand everytime i sneezing especially if there are someone near me. One thing that i realize frome sneezing is, when we sneeze we realese a large amount of bacteries imto the air. That is why we must cover our mouth and nose when we sneeze.
Sometimes, people dont understand about that and keep sneezing without covering their mouth and nose. When that happen with the person stand near me, i only can hold my breath or close my nose with tissue and try to move away from there.

ahgong hi I too dislike that so much.we are all taught as kids to
cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough, yet few people today
practice it. They just do not see that that sneeze or cough spreads
germs all over the place. my roommate just gave me the flu again by not covering her mouth when she coughs. now I an really ill again and it could have all have been avoided,. damn. i am really ill and she does not even have enough common sense to care, damn,.People just do not realize how far out they spray their germs when they do not cover their damned mouths.
