Man City suffered their second straight Cup loss at home yesterday night. After losing to Man United in the FA Cup 3rd round, they ended up losing 0-1 to Liverpool in the first leg of Carling Cup Semifinal. Steven Gerrard scored the winning penalty to put Liverpool to within 90 minutes of a final appearance at Wembley.
What are your views on this result?
Cheers!

I'm so happy! Liverpool did this Without Suarez? That says he is not That needed so he has to watch what he says And the Liverpool has the chemistry And the talent to be great! A penalty shot was the difference? What was the call? Wow!

I think Mancini is not just talkactive. He did win 3 Italian Championships and 3 Italian cups. I don't think there are so many other managers that have won more than he did. He has won a FA cup in England and is sitting pretty comfortable on top of the EPL with a 3 point margin. He even won a manager of the month award. Who do you think is more worthy of the Man City seat if Mancini were to be sacked?

I think Mancini is a good manager. Of course, occasionally all good managers shoot their mouth. For e.g. When Sir Alex said ages ago that he wanted to knock Liverpool off their perch, a lot of people were very skeptical about it.
But he did go on to do it.
Cheers!

Hi ram,
I think it is too early to say that Liverpool would qualify for the final (but really do hope they would make it because I am one of their supporter).
There are 90 minutes to go (plus 30 minutes of extra time and penalty - if needed). And a lot of thing can happen during this 90 minutes. The positive things for Liverpool are they lead by one goal and would be play for the second round at their own turf. This would be an advantage for them even thought this not not a guarantee that they would come out as a winner.
I really hope Liverpool would beat Manchester City and also their opponent at final so they would have something to talk about at the end of the season.

Liverpool were very happy with the result and just defended for the rest of the match after their early penalty. Manchester City seem to be struggling to break down defences at the moment. Failing to score against West Brom, Sunderland and now Liverpool .

I have seen the same formation - when Inter Milan beats Barcelona two or three years ago in the semi-final of Champions League.

I am not a Liverpool fan, but I must say that Gerrard is a great footballer as well as a great captain. To win in Etihad after losing the Premier League encounter with a 3-0 margin was really incredible. And worth to mention, the 3-0 loss was without Gerrard. I am in not saying Gerrard is a one-man team, but he is simply a great footballer.

Indeed, and I believe they will finish higher - maybe in top 6 - this season. Nevertheless, it seems that Liverpool will no longer be at its height like before. Although Kenny Danglish is back, it will have little impact unless they improve their squad by adding some good players. And good players would come for good money.

Man City is facing defeat and defeat and its bad luck begins . Even they are good team and become top 4 in premier league but they still have its own weakness until can defeat at home 0-1 to Liverpool.
As i know Liverpool, the captain Steven Gerrard is really a high talented football player. Really impressed. Congrats to Liverpool. See them in 2nd Leg.

Of course, defeats to Man United and Liverpool is still not a real bad thing. But City's standard has been so high that consecutive defeats to these teams have raised a lot of eye-brows. Man City now has to make a statement in the match against Wigan and turn around this run of results.
Cheers!

Liverpool with Gerrard starting is a different team. Manchester City without Yaya Toure is not the same team as the one almost conquered the whole of England. Two players determined the result of the Carling Cup semifinal first leg. Even though there is still another match (second leg at Anfield)to play, as long as Gerrard is starting for Liverpool, without Yaya Toure, Manchester City will do well to not lose by more than 1 goal. Liverpool will be in Wembley if Gerrard is starting. They have to be as Carling Cup will be the only chance that Liverpool can win a trophy this season. Is Suarez important? At this moment, it is better without him. Liverpool is winning. Don't change a winning team. Even Carroll is revitalized.
I may be a bit simplistic in my "analysis" but football is made of stuff like that.
Man City's next match is away to Wigan. Will it be Man City's 3rd straight loss? Will it be Wigan's turning point in their fight against relegation? I feel that there are sleepless nights for the people in the neighborhood not so far away from Old Traffod.

I think more than anything it also highlighted the dependance of Man City's defence on Kompany. Savio, his replacement, had a nightmare of a game. His positional play was very naive and Liverpool capitalized on that.
Will Man City make it 3 out of 3, I do not think so. I think Wigan will face the heat of Man City's bad results in these two matches.
Cheers!
