I don't know if it is just about age when it comes to music. I cannot forget the old songs from the 40's to 80's even when the songs these days are also great. Perhaps it is my age because i am already a middle aged woman.
But then, my son and my niece love the oldies too. And I know a lot of people who are young but they love the oldies songs.
Share how you feel about songs. Whether it is the oldies, the modern, the rock or any kind of music. Let's keep this discussion about music rolling and thanks.

The beauty about old songs of the 50s, 60s and 70s was that there was emphasis on the voice of the singer: the voice depth, quality & modulation. The accompanying musical instruments would always complement the song and never obscure or overlap as is the practice in today's songs. Although we can exclaim at the marvel of technology, the pleasure of listening to the true voice of the singer no longer exists.
Everything old will make a come back after some time because, in the first place it has real depth & quality. So many of the current genre of songs are often being based on the old philosophy. Even the music, which generally is too loud, blaring and harsh on the ear, would always be mellow and pleasant. Such music is also being recreated in many songs these days.
Listening to old songs is always a treat to the ears & the soul.

I love how you view music in the most balanced perspective. Yes, I agree that the old songs have stories of their own and easily expressed by the singers. Compared today where songs are as chaotic as the topsy-turvy world. Thanks for sharing your pinion.

@Push your still around! Nice to see you there, Mr.
I so know what you mean with the electronics. What are we listening to? Some can not actually sing or least do not sound the same if you were to hear them but they use everything at their disposal I guess. There are a view though that just sing it as themselves and in concert or on cd it is them. I like those and there are a few old new stories out there too but not that many.
@Masmakika I do love the oldies too and what I appreciate is how some styles and even old songs are made alive again but the singers need to capture the mood and meanings as well to be effective. To be completely honest I'm not sure I relate to all the old stuff as well I should because it is another world after all? - love your discussion thanks for making it

I like both kinds of music. Country and western
Actually I think music is great to explore. I like all kinds of music even music that existed before I was born. Right now I'm involved with 50's but I've also appreciated the 40's with the big bands and when I was doing my studies, classical, which goes way back in time. Music is everlasting or a history lesson.

You are a great fan of music. I wish I am like you who can adapt to any type of music. I could never understand what type of music rapping is. Perhaps because I was born in the olden times which is a different phase of life.
Thanks for sharing your great views.

It evades me right now but maybe it will come back to me in the future. There is one kind of music that has a rapping thing going on though it is not the American style of ‘rap’ we have today.
I am not a fan of ‘rap’ either but funny enough I’ve heard versions of it that I like, can’t touch this? I’ve heard young ones and older ones do rap type songs that are humorous and have enjoyed it but like any music there are versions that I’m repelled by because I find them fulgar. It is just not something I’m looking for in music. The same can be said for opera. It is so beautiful and emotionally persuasive. I just can not understand the lanquage and feel at a loss when listening to it but still appreciate it as an art form.
I think music is great because it can express so much artistically and touch us in places so tenderly and I want, I love me tender, love me true.
You too

I consider my self young, and yes, I also love the oldies! I listen to songs that even my mom and dad listened to. It's comforting when I listen to them. Sort of reminds me of home. And, besides the good oldies are really good!
But, I also like the music nowadays, well most of them, at least. It's amazing how people can come up with interesting songs. I'm especially interested in soundtracks, or those used in movies.
Lately, there's becoming a wave of appreciation for Asian songs and I do like a lot of these songs.
And, the one thing I know I'll never tire of are the instrumentals. Nothing like good old violin, piano, guitar and saxophone.

hello,
Yeah, I also like old song but it depends on the genre I like old love songs. They really have a good meaning. Yes, nowadays are more on bands and more on rocks and it keeps me think that I am not sure if I still like the modern music now because some of them dont actually have meaning. They just sing it!

Hello Masmasika,
It depends on the mood as sometimes i like oldies and sometimes i like to listen to the newest song.
But i feel the music has no age only thing is these days as the technique has become advance so there are more special effects in the songs which sometimes pierce high in to the ears and look bad but sometime it looks better and give some relief to mind. But at the end i just say it depends on the mood.

I agree with you. Rap songs are alien to me and I don't want the way song writers today and making a mess of our songs. They add words that are very offensive.

I dont know how old you are but I'm in my mid-30s and I also love the oldies. I especially like songs from the 60s and the 80s. I like 80s music because it is the soundtrack of my childhood. The music of that era is fun to me and brings back many memories. I like the oldies because artists really had to have talent and be able to sing. The bands were also highlighted. Artists were often backed up by live bands unlike a good amount of music today. Dont get me wrong, I do like modern singers but I feel many of them are too manufactured. The music is so synthesized and autotuned and too much focus is placed on dancing and image.

I'm in my early 50s and I enjoy music very much. I also like some modern songs but when it comes to rap, it seems so foreign to me. Thanks.

Oldies are just the best for me. There may even be a lot of new songs or bands today, but i still love the oldies. Everytime i can hear my oldie favorite song, i felt like young again.LOL. I love the 90's. I started to love music when i was in elementary. I already listen to some rock and alternative songs. My older sister is my mentor. Until now, I still listen to it. nothing beats the oldies. I think i will always stay like this whatever happens, even i grow old.

Yep, oldies are great!
I love the classicals, folk music, jazz and pop. I gravitate towards the sad soft music or the dance tunes. Just yesterday, I listen to Mambo Italiano and recently, I am beginning to be a fan of Dean Martin. Yeah, the lyrics are a little bit corny but to me, the oldies have that old-school spark of romanticism.
In the future, I would like to learn violin or cello, so that I can make beautiful music too.

i think the older music is better than the new music by far it has more soul and feeling in it something that we are lacking now a days
