Well personally the Best thing might be to check with the neighbors of the place you are moving in too, and see how safe they feel the place is. If none of them have ever had any real issues, that should make you feel a lot better, but if there are issues then you really need to be safe. Personally make sure all the locks work on all the doors and windows, and if need be consider an alarm system or a Big dog.

Good luck on your transfer atha13! I hope you will have a safe transfer. Nowadays there are already many desperate people that is why we need to secure our homes. In our house we double our locks in the door. It is to make sure that bad people can't simply get in.

always put an alarm. make sure that your windows do have rails in them... to be sure that even if they break the window, they won't be able to get in. also you may want to have your locks changed from a simple door knob to a better "double lock" system. =) works fanstastic.

Set up an improvized CCTV camera. Add an extra lock on your door. If that doesn't work, you still have your CCTV camera as a backup plan. Just make sure you hide it somewhere where you can identify the robber's face or other features, like scars.

Maybe in your new apartment, they've already has some monitor cameras. I hope they do. And they should have some security guards on post, and some log books. So that they could monitor those people who are coming in and coming out. If you really want to secure your house, then, install your own cameras or alarms. Also, make your apartment more difficult to enter. Remember the burglar will simply bypass your apartment if it requires too much effort or requires more skill and tools than they possess. Most burglars enter via the front, back or garage doors. So check those entry points. Use solid core doors and high quality locks on exterior doors that will resist twisting, prying and lock picking attempts. Those are some tips. Maybe you could use one.
