I found Judah, still alive!

Hello fellow mylotters. This little sweet stray cat somehow managed to crawl to the backyard and into a box where I feed them. This morning when I went out to feed Leonardo, I saw Judah in the box! (Judah had been hit by a car last night--there is another discussion about it) And now for the sad news. I called my vet to see if they could recommend someplace to take him, and they said I could take him there. To be euthanized. I never thought I could do that; I am pro-life including animals. But I did, I took him to the vet and dropped him off. The pain and fear in his eyes was too much for me. His good behavior was surprising, he did try to get out of the box even with his injuries when he was in the car, and I told him to lay down and stay, and you know what? He did just that. Wow. I did not realize at the time I was taking him to his death, because the lady I spoke with at the vets told me depending on his injuries, he may have to be put down. I was hopeful they would be able to patch him up and give him to the shelter, and I told Judah he will get a good home and he better stay in the house so he would not ever get hit by a car again, or get oil on him or get sick from something he should not eat. When I took him in, the other girl at the desk told me she thought he was being put down, unless I wanted to pay for his treatment. O, my gosh, I cannot afford this--if only I could win the Publishers Clearinghouse Sweeps, I would take care of all these little cats in the hood---. I told her what the other gal said, and asked her to call me to let me know if they decide to save him or not. Then I said goodbye, and petted his sweet little head. When I came home, I hugged all my kitties, who are so unaware how blessed they are to be in this house where they get fed vet recommended food and are warm, safe, and dry. I have been crying since I left the vets, that was 2 hours ago. I love that cat. Now I will have Leonardo fixed, there is a clinic that will do it for $25.00. Fellow mylotters, have you ever taken care of a stray animal? If you had the money, would you have a stray treated for its injuries if something happened to it?

They sure can shed, can't they? I was just looking at my stairway and noticed big gobs of hair. I just vacuumed it within the past week! I keep telling them to stop shedding but they will not listen to me. There are a lot of people that do not care for animals, and I can't understand it. A pet is there for you when others are not. They totally rely on you, and if you give them what they need, they will love you. I do not care for the wild ones so much, because they just make a mess. They are trying to survive, but I hate they use my garden for litterbox and spray the house because they smell my cats. The ones I care for do as well, but I try to train them. It worked for awhile. lolol. You know some of those evil creatures sprayed Judah after he was hit by the car and couldn't move? grrrrrrrr.........that is just plain mean.

If I have the money and on your position, I will do the best I could to save Him. I believe you will agree if all of us will do everything for something that we love, cares and trusted. If and only if we able to do it.

It is a shame it costs so much for medical treatment. Probably more people would take care of their animals if it was not so expensive. Even so, that is no excuse to not have them spayed or neutered.

Rosegardens, I am so very happy to hear that he came back home to you, and I want you to know that you did the right thing. Letting him suffer would have been the wrong choice to make, I too have been in the situation that you r in. I feed our area strays all the time, and I was especially fond of scraps. He was a mix taby that used to come to my home all the time, he would wait patiently for me almost every day and even chased the birds away from my feeder. One morning when I came outside to feed him, I noticed that his fur and mouth had blood on them. Once I looked closer I noticed a bunch of other injuries, he was limping so bad he couldn't make it past the deck stairs. I never saw the car hit him, but with the injuries he had, I was sure he had been hit. I wrapped him in a warm blanket and took him to the vet. He had to be put down, the blood on his mouth came from internal injuries that were too much for him to survive. I dropped him off and got in the car and cried. When I finally made it home I too hugged my pets and thought of how blessed I was to have them in my life. I know that you will always remember Juda just as I know he will always remember you.

I am sorry for the loss of your little friend. That is truly heart breaking. Scraps sounds like he looks a bit like Judah, he is also a tabby, golden color. Beautiful gold eyes he had. He did not have bleeding at the mouth, so I wonder if he had any internal injuries? I am wondering, second-guessing. But I could not care for his injuries properly if he could be ok. He would have needed too much nursing, and with my pride of 5 it would be near impossible to care for him properly. Our animals are a blessing, aren't they? Can you believe there was a time I did not like cats? lol. Then I found my Baby, and she promptly got pregnant and gave me 4 grandkitties. Now I would not know what to do without them!

Hello there! I followed your posts. I am sop sorry about what happened to Juddah! Now just as I replied a while ago with popping eyes, it burst now with tears. I could really imagine how he looked like struggling to get out under your car or getting in the box for some comfortable place to rest while he is suffering from the pains that he got from the accident! I admire you that you were still able to take care of him and did what you have to do. If I have the money, I will still make Juddah be treated in the clinic. But if he will till suffer for a very long time enduring the pain from the accident and be deformed (like losing a leg and be amputated for the rest of his life) then I will also consider what you did. I have also taken care of stray cats before. it was like 10 years ago I adopted 2 cats, they come and go but then the 2 cats that I have now are from the generation of the cats I have adopted 10 years ago. thank you for this heart-pinching story / post!

That is so kind of you to care for those poor little strays. I would not have put Judah down (if I had the money to care for him) if he needs only an amputation. Animals do very well as amputees. Though if it were 2 legs, then he would definitely be an indoor cat! I am now wondering if perhaps he did only have some broken bones. He wasn't bleeding at the mouth, so perhaps he had no internal injuries. How am I to know without the ex-rays and tests? Lord, I hope I did the right thing by him. Poor baby, I miss him so. I made some hard-boiled eggs tonight. When I bought the carton I thought of that cat, and giving him a hard boiled egg to eat. Eggs are good for them. Of course I started crying when I remembered my thoughts buying the eggs and putting them in the fridge.

Yes if I had the money I would most definitely have paid for the little kitty's treatment, but unfortunately I don't have the extra money & what I do have I have to spend on my own babies. Like you though I would have been sick about it & yes I too would have cried all the way home & also like you I would have hugged each & every one of my babies, just because I would be so glad that they were alive & healthy. It's true when they say that when you have a big heart like that for all animals big & small that at some point they are bound to break that very same heart. I love each & every one of them, dogs & cats alike, so if I could save them all I would.

That is very sweet of you to say. Maybe someday you will be in a position to help out some strays or some other good cause to better humanity and/or the world we live in. Good luck!
