Do your nerves get the best of you?

I went to apply for a couple jobs today. It went well but I walked out feeling like I should have said so much more. I wish I told them all of the experience I have. Its on my resume but maybe I should have told them as well... Do you ever let your nerves get the best of you? Do you forget to say things you wish you did? Do you think a resume says enough?

Yes, I don't get well with my nerves. Sometimes I also speak too much or forget what I had wanted to say. This can happens even when I'm sure to make everything well. I know the reasons - I work too much, I'm tired all the time, I have health problems and there is the stress... We must learn how to stay calm. But I hope that after all you have presented yourself well today. And your resume have all the important information. Just try to calm down and don't give up in any case. Good luck!

I wish that I had stayed calm. I hate when I get that nervous because there was so much more to say! And I didnt say it. The lady seemed busy and I didnt want to bug her too long. Hopefully I did enough!

Oh boy howdy! Yes, I do… because I have generalized anxiety disorder. My anxiety gets so bad that I cannot talk. It takes a combination of 3 different forms of aphasia… one is where my muscles in my face and tongue won’t move to form the words… another form I have is when I can’t retrieve the words in my brain, and the other kind is when I can’t say the words… I will get stuck on the sound of the first letter… like if I am trying to say “my checkbook is overdrawn” I will get stuck on the first letter or two of the first word.. like.. making the ‘m’ sound… and eventually get to ‘my’ but can’t say the rest of the words, and I might be able to get out some key words of the sentence, like ‘ch, ch, che, check’ . Sometimes I get a combination of all three things going on… if I lose muscle control, my tongue falls out of my mouth and it won’t move and I can’t form the words. I get this way even when I don’t know I’m anxious.. it’s like a build up and it just happens any time of day. It’s very hard for me to communicate because of this. I can type what I want to say, but if I get to the point where I can’t ‘remember’ how to talk, then I have no words in my head to even type or write by hand.

Oh my im sorry you have anxiety so bad!! I could not handle that. My nerves are bad enough without all of that. That has to be terrible. And with how mean some people can be Im sure that has to be really hard. I hope eventually it gets better.

A couple of years ago I went for a job interview. I have worked the same place for 27 years.....well I was so nervous that when I had to take the typing test...I couldn't type. My hands were shaking so bad....they did let me take it over...but I sure didn't type as fast as I usually do...I was very disappointed in myself. They wanted me to take one more test but I passed on it......and never went back to finish....it was too nerve wracking.

As someone who has gone through a lot of job interviews, I would say I've managed to control my nerves alread (I think). I know what you mean about second-guessing yourself after you step out of an interview. I did all the time before. Now that I've gotten so used to the questions (which are almost always the same), I just spit it out as if I were a robot. So, have they called yet?

It actually wasnt even an interview, I just gave them my resume and Im hoping they will call for an interview! I did second guess myself when I walked out because I wanted to almost make them want to give me a chance. Lol.

Your experience really suit on me.I am always finding get so nerves and ruin things suppose to be good. As for the resume,I believe that even a good one cannot be enough to show everything of someone. What the resume really does is to attract the interest of the employers, and then it's your real time to show yourself. I think you can find some of your good friend and ask him/her to give you a simulation of interview, trying to calm yourself down. By the way, being confident is really good for defeat nerves. Good luck for you job huntting.

Don't worry it is not only the results of the interview that matters. Interviewer's or employer's always give the benefit of the doubt for people who are not very articulate about their own qualifications and aptitudes. Your application will certainly be reviewed and the resume will speak much for you. That is the importance of the resume since it is the valid proof of your educational background and training. It is but normal to experience nerves during an interview and everybody certainly feels the same way you do. Do you think the interviewers don't know about that? They certainly do and would even consider it abnormal if you are not nervous.

I hope your right. The woman just seemed busy and I didnt want to bother her too much. Hopefully my resume will be enough for me. I was just giving them my resume, it wasnt an interview yet. Hopefully they will call me for an interview...

I have found that telling all of my experience tends to make people think I have changed jobs too much.Sometimes I have worked three jobs at a time. I need to stick to the experience I have that matches the job I am applying for. If they have asked for a resume, you would think they will read it. Probably not always true. My nerves always get the best of me, even after I have the job, fearing that I will not catch on fast enough.

Well thats what I meant. I have tons of experience with children including having 3 of my own which I didnt mention because she seemed busy and I was nervous... Now I really wish I mentioned more about me and my experience. On my resume it doesnt say I have 3 kids because its not a formal job per say...Oh well. If its meant to be it will happen...

hi lovingmybabies oh I remember that yet being nervous but the job I had applied for was a page job and they had a cart of books in the office. the interviewer asked me to alphabetize them like I would need to in order to shelve them. It took me fiv e minutes and she was so impressed she told me I had the job.lol what a relief as I had sweated out the forms and the past work experience and all that and as I had never worked in a library I was not sure I would be chosen.and years back when I applied for a job as nurses aide the fact that I had had a year of nurses training got me that job even though I dropped out and did not get credited as an RN.I will never forget one interview for a receptionist job in a company making basketballs and o ther sports crap. After going through all my past work experience the interviewer called the manager. "Sir I have Mrs. Hatley here who really is qualified for this job over the other applicants, can I go ahead and hire her?" I was shocked to overhear the male chauvinist pig"what size dress does she wear? got to be 12 or under Louise. Bigger than that no don't hire her." What in the hell I thought has my size got to do with my ability to answer phones and direct customers to the right offices? I asked her that as she tried to apologize for him. I wore a 16 at the time so I was out . I thought maybe thats good as I would not have fit in with people like that manager. lol lol.

It wasnt even an interview I was just giving them my resume and filling out an application. Im hoping at the interview I can tell them a whole lot more about me and my experience. I hope they call for an interview, I need a job. And the daycare is down the street which would be great! That is terrible that he asked what size you were! How flipping rude!! You probably wouldnt like that job your right. You dont seem like you would put up with that mess.

I do let my nerves get the best of me. I forget things i should have said all the time. I say that I am allergic to stress. My nerves start my stress going and I get shakey and can even break out in a rash if it gets too bad. A resume should definitely state the facts but I try to go over what I want to say and stress to people the night before.

Oh, as much as I don't want to, it does sometimes. And I think it had indeed cost me a job once or twice since I did bad in expressing myself during the job interviews. Resumes aren't enough, especially nowadays. They also take into consideration how well you express yourself. And sometimes this can really differentiate you from the other applicants.

I think everyone does it at times. Im glad Im not the only one. The lady said she was busy and had to get back to the children which I understood so I didnt want to take up too much of her time...
