Okay so today was a horrible day! I could definitely tell that today was Friday the thirteenth. So besides tripping all over things at work today I had an aweful table. I am a waitress at a local diner around where I live. It is a very respected place that people come and eat at. The owner has been Open and running for 23 years. Well today I had this table of two come in to eat. I got there drinks and I was taking their order. As I am taking this order there was a man and a women and the man was swishing a piece of blue bubblegum in his mouth. I thought to myself wow people still chew gum! So I took their order delivered there food and started taking an order of another table. Going back to this table of two they were almost finished when the guy got a phone call and said he would be there in 20 mins. I went to deliver the food to the other table when on the way back through the guy stops me and says that there is a problem. I said okay what is it. He said I took a bite of my sandwich and bit into chewed gum. I thought he was joking so I said okay well u had gum when u came in. He got all defensive and wanted his check. I said okay and I wrote it out. Then he said he is not paying for his meal because it was discusting that he ate someone else's gum in his sandwich I said okay whatever I'll get my manager. So I did and the guy explained what was going on to my manager. The manager said sir we are not allowed to chew gum here so u could not have gotten it from this building and I'm the only cook so I seen ur plate before it went out. The guy got all pissed off and said I'll lay for it but I willnever come back here. I seen him chewing the gum how can he say we put it there? I hate when people are very dishonest and try to get stuff for free. If I didn't personally with my own eyes see the gum in his mouth then I would have givin his meal for free but u seen the gun going back and forth from cheek to cheek in his mouth. What would you have done in this situation?

hi amanda I think I would have done just what you and the manager
did as the man was clearly lying and just wanted a free meal. I am
glad the manager did not cave in to him. the man was being a jerk
and you and the manager were right on with what you did, thats exactly how I would have handled it myself. some men are jerks.

Thank you very much. I feel the same. But I really feel sorry for his wife because now I am wondering I they do that everywhere they go? Wow what a life.

That was a pretty hard day for you. I hope you are alright. I really hate those kind of people who are big liars. I guess they are just doing it for them not to able to pay for what they have ordered. Shame on them. They will never be successful if they continue being like that.

Yeah I hope he doesn't come back. In the summer we will get enough business we don't need money. The funny part was his wife ordered the most expensive thing on the menu. then she barely ate it. That sucks for them because they were stuck paying for it.

I would have done exactly what you did. Just to see what the answer is I would like to ask if this person was a new customer or a regular customer. I'm guessing that he is not a regular customer.

I had never seen the guy before in my life there. The owner was like I dare him to come back in my restaurant!

It is very sad when people feel the need to be dishonest. I would definitely have done the same as you. I'd have even said "sir in prior visits have you EVER seen any of our waitresses chew gum?.. It's not allowed, we just dont' do it."

Yeah we told him that we don't know where he would have gotten the gum besides his own mouth because we have no gum and we don't sell it either. If it came from another customers plate we hand wash the dishes and if we would have missed it then it would have been hard gum not chewy

Oh yeah I would definitely remember him if he came back in. I thought it was funny more than rude. But he didn't like the fact that I caught him and laughed at him at the same time.

WTF?!
Not only was he dishonest, I think he was a bit stooopid too! Didn't he think that you could have seen him chewing the gum?
I think it was just right that you called your manager, and that he told him in his face that gum didn't come from the restaurant.
If he never comes back, then good riddance to him!
