How much do you love reading?

Since I was a kid, I've always been interested in criminal and detective stories. I remember when I was absent from school (I was about 11) suffering from measles, I spent my days reading criminal stories from my dad's magazines. I don't know how I can be so much interested in such stories, but that was the starting point of my reading habit. Then when my brother went home from school one day and brought 4 Agatha Christie's novels, I've devoted my life to her. Lol. However, no matter how I loved criminals stories, I wasn't quite interested in studying the law since I know it's so complicated. Instead, I studied literature in the University. Well, at least literature keeps me reading books. Now, I don't only read criminals, but also drama, romance, anything. As long as I can read them. :D

Hi MissPiggy,
I don't really love reading that much. I used to love it that much...I tend to buy a lot of pocketbooks (Tagalog) and would even don't sleep just to finish the entire story. But nowadays, I became lazy with it.,,and in fact, I still have a lot of books that I haven't finish yet. But I still keep buying books most especially if the story is interesting.
I tend to go at the bookstore usually and just read around in there and if I see something interesting, I would definitely buy it but it will just end up unfinished. I am trying to control myself now unlike before.
We can definitely gain a lot through reading. And I am more fond of reading novels with love stories rather than action or criminal thingy.
Have a nice day!

Hi there, smurfysmurf. I wonder why u don't love reading again. :( I mean, u used to read a lot like that before. I still have some unread novels too, but I keep buying and buying once I have the time to visit the bookstore. :D I also like love stories; I like Barbara Cartland's novels. If I read one novel or book I always try to finish it no matter how long the time I need to do it. Lol. Yes, I don't really have much time to read right now, but I always try to find time to read.

I think it is because I would rather choose being online rather than spend my vacant time reading. Before, we don't have any internet connection yet...and the moment we have it, my sisters would use our PC so that would be the best time for me to read..But these days, other than being online, I just rest myself and sleep to catch up my lost sleeping times. I love sleeping a lot so definitely I would really choose that rather than reading.
But, I won't close my doors since I still have a lot of unfinished books in here...and it would really take time to finish it..I would then find time.

I am right there with you! I love reading so much that I need to always have a book with me when I go outside because you never know if you will have to wait for something and need something to do. I used to devour books every day when I was in middle school and high school. Unfortunately I just graduated college and while I was there I was able to read but not as much. Now that I graduated I'm hoping that I'll be able to read more but for now it seems like I am just reading around one book per week. In college I studied English: Language and Literature, so I had a lot of reading to do as well as a lot of writing. My love of reading is what has lead me to want to become a writer and hopefully entertain readers like some of my favorite writers have entertained me.

Yeah I try to get some reading done during work while I'm eating lunch but something always comes up. So most of my reading gets done while I am also going to work which is usually forty minutes.

OMG!! We really are in the same boat!! :D I also bring books whenever I go, but not at work cuz I've tried once and apparently didn't have time to read. And now I also can't read as much as I used to, but whenever I have time, I grab all the books and read! Even I can finish two novels in a week. But...like what I've said, it's very rare. :( I used to think I wanted to be a writer too, but I think I can do it when I'm old and have nothing to do but writing. XD Lol.

I also have books on me. My mother gets mad coz I sometimes bring 3 to 5 heavy books in my bag. My trip to school lasts for 40 mins. so I'll read and read.
I also want to be a writer but I have never finished even a rough draft because of anxiety and the what if I suck mentality and of course the short attention span I have. Good luck to all aspiring writers such as us!

I am a little more picky about what I read, but I love to read, so much that I have also written a book and hopefully in a few months I will have time to find someone to help me publish it. I also have to read every night before I go to bed and even though I have many books, I am still looking for a new one to read..:)

I love reading books and I am also a big fan of Agatha Christie books. I don't think there will ever be a point in my life where I don't like to read books. Now, I mostly read manga and comics but I sneak a book or two each week, if I can.

I love crime and punishment genre novels too! I also like the amateur sleuth kind too. One of my best buddies as a nerdy kid was Nancy Drew, and she very often not only brought George and her other friend, very often Nance would surprise me and show up with her homies the Hardy brothers too. What great company to while away an afternoon after school or even on the weekends. Have you read any of the 87th precinct novels by Ed McBain? or any of the Kay Scarpeta mystey thrillers? Also the Alex Deleware thrillers may be your kind of read as well. If you haven't heard of Mariah Stewart you may also want to check out a novel or two of hers. All of these charachters or authors have a unique and beautiful ability to transport you right out of your humdrum work-a-day world and right into one filled with savvy, jaded, or crusader law enforcement professionals who just carry you right along with them through every twist and plot turn.
Oh in answer to your question MP, I love reading thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis MUCH!(that is to say, AWHOLEHELLUVALOT!
Nice meeting you, keeping myLotting and reading!

I also read more western stories from other authors, but I forgot the names. :) And I think I'm going to search Louis La'amore too. :)

just like you dear, I like reading very much. I don't know why i like reading, but just like another interest we don't need to have any reasons to like something, rite? LOL. I think you're so lucky cos you could enjoy an entertaining magazine in your childhood, though it's a criminal story, and then it became your starting point to be addicted to books. what could be my starting point was an agriculture magazine. My father had great passion in agriculture world so he liked to buy agriculture magazine to add his knowledge about it. because he bought those so often, it influenced me to be interested in it too. I was about seven or eight at that time. and I think it was my starting point why I like reading today. about how much I read everyday, actually I want to have much time to read cos I love novels today, but I don't have enough time to read them cos I have some jobs to do (I'm a housewife with five children. amazing, ha? LOL). but sometimes I keep a novel beside my pillow and I read it before sleeping..it's nice..

Five children?? Wow! U gotta be sooooo busy dealing with them! :O Amazing it is, I agree with that. :) And it's also amazing that u still even spare a time to read (well, at least u keep a book beside ur pillow, lol). My dad's magz are just like ur dad's agriculture magz. They're bought monthly, so I couldn't even stand it waiting a month to pass! :D But yes, I think I'm lucky to have such starting point in my life. I can improve my knowledge through reading and it's made me what I am now (I'm a student, lol).

That's a nice hobby my friend. Keep it up because it will enrich your vocabulary. Just make sure that when you read , you have a dictionary beside you, so when you meet a strange word you can look it up easily on the dictionary.
That way you vocabulary increases and your mind enriches.

Hi Miss Piggy,
very cute picture of you by the way..
I do love reading books before , but not so often now ever since there is what we called FB..ehehe, i do take time much on surfing the net nowadays but still i do have time to read books sometimes, if i fed up using the pc. I love to read English novels, story books , comics and especially Reader's Digest. Cause every time i do read English books, there are really a lot of kinda hard words that you really need to pick up and use your dictionary, and in that way, am not only learned something on some articles I'm reading, but have been gathering and collecting a lot of vocabulary as well.

Wow!! I'm really glad to know there's someone who loves Agatha Christie too! :D I haven't read all of her novels, but I've always bought her works everytime I have money and read them later. Lol. And murder mystery is always the best theme to me. We have to think and guess who's the murder and how he/she does it. I can't stop reading whenever I start it. Do u feel the same way too?

I used to read everything i can get my hands on. Now all I have time for is mylot. Its good enough for now.
I love reading when I used to doing it. I love the pictures that forms when the author describes the scene. I love the language and the words that are used.
That brings me to wonder if reading from the ipad or kindle will give me the same effect. I cant imagine that it would. They can never be as light as a book or as comfortable. Ahh the stick in the mud thats me!

Lol. I can't quite imagine reading from iPad yet, because I also think it's not like a book. And yes, we can't use iPad whenever we want either. While we can bring books everywhere and read anytime. I also love when the authors use the words so we can imagine the situation in our minds. I think it also helps us train our brain to imagine, right? ;)

Wow, you read so much! When I was a kid, I simply hated to read, you could never force me to read and if I was, I would just skim the pages of the novel and said I was done. I just didn't find interest in reading and that was because I couldn't find anything that I liked to read. I'm very picky with stories and only read a book if it was a story line that I personally like. My dad reads a lot and tried to encourage me to read when I was younger. He read at work all the time and he said that it makes you smarter improving your literacy skills. I'm now into reading but I'm still picky in what I read though I tend to read online and download stories online so that I can find the right novel to read which will interest me rather than buying a book out in the store unsure of whether I'll like it or not. The internet is so useful and I can read stories written by people from all walks of life.

Yes..I read so much, but I still feel it's not enough! Lol. I can say I'm also a little picky about what I read. My favorite author are always on the top list. :D I read Chicklits series right now, so I must be really picky cuz so many writers with so many stories, and no simple summary can guarantee the content of the story. XD I bought one novel from Chicklit the series (I forgot the writer) and got disappointed cuz I didn't understand the story. :( I've tried to read it twice but it's still nothing. So I didn't recommend it to my friends who want to borrow my novels (I pick the ones whom I'll lend my novels and books). :D I still can't imagine myself reading online stories or on pc, though. I prefer to read printed materials. :D And I have sooooooooooo many eBooks (and also novels) but I haven't read them yet. And if I have to print them out, then I'm gonna need so much paper!! :O Lol.
