weight of the soul

I was watching the history of the studies that found the weight of the soul. I have watched this documentary before, but each time I do I have more questions. The way they found this was to measure body weight just before death and then right after death. There always seemed to be a slight decrease in the body weight right after the heart stopped. Since they could measure this they felt it was something given off by the body. What I question is that as our instruments get more and more developed could this not be a gas of some type not previously measured? Anyone have more info to add to this?
