This weekend I finally ate all I wanted!

I have been eating healthy food (too healthy for my taste) for many months due to the special needs during my chemo. I was given a long list of the food I was not supposed to eat and then that list grew when I was at the hospital with an indigestion that started with a virus while I did not have defenses.
But now everything is in the past. And although I won´t know the results of my chemo until February ( and the best will be "better"), I want to have some fun. So yesterday I said yes to a barbecue (we are in Summer) and today I had a friend for lunch who brought a luscious sirloin seak.
Have you ever graved for any sort of food during a fasting, diet or illness? Were you happy when that was over? Share!

I was happy to be able to eat fresh fruit again when I finished chemo. That was the main thing that I stayed away from. I just stay away from what they tell me to when they tell me to.

You have 2 PET scans? Interesting. I have about a week before they start this new chemo so I think I will enjoy life as much as I can this week. I just hope that I don't get another obstruction this week. Have a great week!!!

They want a scan of my pelvis and one of the abdomen. At the begining they scanned me almost from head to toe.

I behaved well while in chemo and later on, when I had that didestive problem which was worse than chemo. For several weeks, at that time, I thought I would never ve able to eat a lot of yummy things. So now I feel fine, it is a pleasure to eat that awesome steak. I will have as much fun as I can without doing things I shouldn´t until the next appointment with the doctor (the first week of February with 2 PET scans).
I big hug for you and I´ll be thinking of you tomorrow

Oh Yes, this has happened plenty of times... LOL... I am kind of foodie. .I have a taste for specific non veg dishes. Many times, I have craved for a beef burger or beef curry... And got to have beef after a week or so... You can imagine, with what joy I consumed my food at such times.. LOL
Take care dear...

Just imagine that I didn´t eat any red meat (let alone a big steak) for almost a year. I don´t know what lays ahead for me in February, but I will have fun until then.

Thanks, friend. I am taking care of myself by having fun. Today, thanks to my friend, I ate a red meat I have not tasted for almost a year. I have been almost vegetarian lately and I don´t mind much. But once in a while one needs a piece of red meat.

I did not see many people eating other food either because I was almost secluded for all the time of the chemo. Part of it was in Winter and everyone had colds and viruses and I had no defenses. So I spoke mostly with you, people from mylot, than with my friends or family, except when they were on perfect health.

I am glad you can now eat whatever you like. It's not always that way so you deserve that my friend.
Me, i avoid getting so hungry, lest i will crave for expensive foods and be frustrated i cannot buy them because i am on a budget. But whenever payday comes, i really treat myself to some of my expensive cravings.

I love some expensive foods too, but I can turn a lot of cheap ingredients into awesome meals. I love to cook and I do it fairly well. But this diet for over 6 months was terrible.

Hi marguicha, first let me say congradulation for survivng the chemo
and the horrific ilness...I truly know how you feel...I am a five
year survivor of B Cancer, and it was a very very rough road,,,I
would not even wish that on an enemy..
I didn't get that list...but I do know I had cravings like I was
pregnant...and my children made sure I got everything I wanted even
foods that were out of season..
So enjoy your summer and good luck in the future....Hope your treatment

I have acancer it seems in an advanced stage but it has responded very well to chemo up to now. So I will treat myself as in full health until they prove to me I´m wrong. I have about 3 weeks to have fun before the next PET scans

Thank you, Hatley, friend. Although the doctor has warned me from the beginning that there´s no "cure" for my kind of cancer, it has responded very well to chemo up to now and besides being a slow grower it is on remission now. We will see what the scan bring. Meanwhile, the steak was awesome. And so was the friend that brought it. She is very loving and thoughtful

I can really relate with you. It's just so hard to resist those temptations most especially if you are used to eating it like everyday of your life.
In my case, I have this low protein diet that I need to follow..but because there are a lot of celebrations everywhere...I just couldn't avoid myself by craving with those meats. I am actually trying my best to control myself and instead of the meat, I will just get the vegetables..But it's just so hard.
It's really good if you can really eat anything you want. And right now, I am craving for medium rare beef...but I don't think I would be able to eat that since I've already eaten a lot of meat these days because of the feast we have here in our place.
It's not yet over in my case. I need to stick with it.
Have a nice day!

I had not eaten a steak (rare for me) for almost a year. I have been on chemo and the doctor and nurse gave me a list of forbidden food. Red meat was among that and the kind of cheeces I love best too. So now it has been a real celebration to have it.

Indeed a real celebration. I would probably celebrate like that if I can eat those meat again. But I guess, I would have it (low protein diet) for the rest of my life. ((....

Hi marguicha I Am so happy you can now enjoy your food...how good that must feel! I used to suffer with stomach ulcers about 15 years ago and was on a very bland diet for ages! and I used to crave so much for the things I could not have...thank goodness after a month of treatment[ a virus was causing the ulcer] I got healthy again! and yes I was so happy when it was over...today I eat what I like but none the less I still watch what I eat just in case!

My sister had a stomach ulcer for a long time due to Helicobacter pylori a very common and abnoxious bacteria. She was treated and her life changed. Still she learned to eat with moderation.

Hi Marg, i am happy and would like to congratulate you that now you are able to eat quite a lot of food now. Hope your health will continue to recuperate to a much better stage, so you will be able to enjoy your favorite food again. I remembered before when i was down with a serious throat infection, i am unable to eat my favorite fried chicken with potato chips. Only after i was fully well from my sickness, then only i was allowed to consumed my favorite food like usual. Now, i prefer to eat less fried food since it is not good for my health as well. I prefer to eat more on fruits and veggies now.

Whatever the outcome, there´s no more chemo for me, it seems. So I will be able to eat almost all I want for now. We will see what the oncologist says in Febraury. Meanwhile, I am ccepting all sorts of invitations.

Dear marguicha
If I was a little more in control of myself instead of my tastebuds... I would have refrained from Barbecue until the results were out... but I am not
I have been diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis in 2005 and have been on medication and medicinal diet since. But as my tastebuds do control me more I cannot help eating away from my prescribed diets many a times. And yes, there are days in between when I am a little more healthier and these days... it becomes nearly impossible to control my lust for YUMMY food.
Fasting - When I was in better health and once a Year I did fast (the books told me that it is fine to go with a day of fasting and too much of water).
Dieting - that will be lying... I never did any kind of diet... I have always been bony and skeletal no matter what I ate

Oh, yes, I have! I was misdiagnosed when I had appendicitis and they ended up bursting leaving my insides in a big mess. My pancreas and small intestines had pretty much shut down by the time I was taken into surgery. At first I was on just a clear liquids diet for 2 weeks then I graduated to soft foods for two weeks. I had so much soup broth and oatmeal that when it was over I couldn't even stand to look at it ever again! When I was finally able to eat real food again I had to take it very slow, so I wasn't really able to splurge but I enjoyed it just the same.

I had to take it very slowly after a virus that I got when my defenses were very low. I ended up in the hospital for a week and had to take it slowly for a long while. This weekend is the first time that I have "graduated" completly from soft diets and soups. I have come to hate some food I used to like a lot. I understand perfectly your feelings.

Hi friend, i wish you get/have/eat all those in your 'wish list' this year and i am happy to know currently you are fit & fine. Also hope the February brings you good news, good health and good luck about chemo. result.
I remember my mother used to restrict on certain foods when i had jaundice before my marriage. But I insisted her to make a feast (of the items i wanted to eat) the day I fully recovered. So you know how i missed those food stuff.
Fasting i tried but then i found out i eat more on those days so i stopped it. No i dont do any dieting as i am a slim trim figure and people advise me to gain some weight. This is another reason why i had to stop my fasting. hahahaa.

Yes I did crave for food sometimes. Usually when I am having very painful tonsilitis and sometimes severe cough that seem not to last. One evening I was invited to a party in a small cruise and all I did was drink a lot of water. There were a lot of foods and different kinds of drinks. But i just tasted some food and drink pelnty of water while I keep coughing. My friends and other guests were enjoying the foods.

I may have missed or overlooked any comments you have made here. May I ask how long have you had this cancer? Since I am late on this one, how are you feeling so far (since we are in mid to late February already)?
Have you been able to do some exercising?

I can understand your joy although I am not on a diet. My father is a diabetes patient and is not allowed to eat something sweety for sure. For me, I act as a supervisor all the time to give him healthy food. But he always eats sweety things when I am distracted by other stuff and not paying attention to him. Every time when I discover that, it is just too late. I start nagging but he just bursts into giggles cunningly. I can imagine how happy he is and so I stop nagging. To me it would be great if he can behave himself and not to eat something which is no good to his body.

My mom has diabetes and my brother doesn´t let her eat anything she shouldn´t although she has a mild kind of diabetes and is 87 years old. I believe in quality of life so, when my brother is not around, I´ll let her have a bit of icecream. She doesn´t eat a lot of it anyway as she says it´s too sweet. But she has her fun.
I don´t know how much will I live, but I intend to live as happily as possible. Hooray for steaks!!!
