Wow... the most expensive cab ride I have taken is a $45 ride from one end of the island to the other after mid-night.
You can read the article here http://tinyurl.com/765q2bb
The cab fare structure here has a pretty complicated way of calculating the different surcharges and peak periods fare prices.
There are a few category of cabs here, from the regular types to the bigger mini buses to the luxury models like the Mercedes.
And the Chrysler 300C cabs are considered the most luxurious of the lot. And of-course, with this category of cabs, the prices for taking it is also premium!
But for a ride from one end to the other, at $82, it is really steep!
When I take the cab, I usually avoid the premium cabs like the plague! Mainly due to the cost. The flag down fare is $5. Depending on the time you board the cab, the flag down, together with the various peak surcharges and other what-not add ons, you could easily be looking at a $10-$13 flag down fare. That the cab hasn't even engaged the first gear to move!
And at $0.33 jump in the meter, it is a cab way too expensive for my comfort to get anywhere in the country.
Do you have premium cabs in your country?
What are the charges like?

Yeah, i read that newspaper report as well, and i wonder who on earth would engage those cabs in the first place? If it's someone important, they are usually ferried around by company cars. When there's such premium cabs, there should be waiting for bookings instead of plying the roads or stalking in the airport, waiting to prey on unknowing passengers, especially first time tourist. It's just not fair. PLus, whatever comfort company wants to do, it's their problem, yet they are telling all others to follow suit in fixing their prices. If only we have a fifa interpol for taxis also.. lol
