New Update For Everyone

I am sure there are many here wanting an update, and many wondering what is happening. Well, it has been so far a yr. of frustration when it comes to my Chronic wound on my leg and know God is continuing to challenge me to see how much I can handle. On top of it I now have a touch of the Cold that is going around work so have not been feeling like myself, but keeping positive. Personally the challenges I am going thru now with the wound on my leg, I would not wish anyone else to ever endure. It has been an interesting last 7 months almost since I started going to the Wound Healing center. Many times since I have not really gotten anything done more than once in that month at most, it has made me wonder why they are taking so long trying to get this healed, and why when I try asking questions or venting some of my frustrations, they try to turn the tables back on me. The first of the yr. started out with me thinking my leg was within weeks of being healed. Matter of fact you could hardly see an opening most of the time, which most people would think would be an excellent sign. But no, according to the New Doctor they made me start seeing, (this is the 3rd one since I started going there), was thinking that all the hardened skin on top was sluff that would prevent my wound from completely healing, and decided to debride it right about the time I was finishing up an antibiotic, and then never really put anything on it to help it heal. Even a week later before putting another Oasis on it, he decided to debride it even more. So instead of the wound looking almost closed, he reopened the skin and made the size bigger. Not explaining anything either. Just telling me if I did not agree, or was not satisfied I could switch back to the other doctor I was seeing. Well, we will see Thursday when I go back to him what the wound looks like. I am really hoping the debriding is done, as I was under the impression that debriding while using oasis is not recommended or necessary and will slow down the healing process as well. But who knows.. I guess I will find out on Thursday. Here's hoping for some Good progress. (But really beginning to wonder if since they are not really getting paid much anymore they know they can take their time?) But other than that life is Good. Still looking forward to other things this yr. and believing God for Great things. Sometimes I think he puts these things in my path just to see how much I will continue to want to Trust him, and believe that he is in control. So continue the Prayers, and I will keep you updated. One day soon I am hoping I can truly say this has been worth it all. ~~TINA~~

I believe that you are right about not using Oasis and debriding at the same time as it will take longer to heal. It might be that you had to have it done even though you were using the Oasis. However, I would be finding a different doctor if he wants to do anything else like that. A year is a long time for a wound not to heal. What happened to it in the beginning? Are you diabetic? I know it can take longer for them to heal, but you are talking about a year. I think that you should get some good antibiotic cream and put on it and keep it wrapped for a week or so and it should start to heal up. I know that bacon grease does miracles on cuts on animals - I wonder if it would work on humans. There is a medicine out called New Skin if it is not extremely large, you could try that. If you place it on a cut it burns a lot but it does act like a new skin and it seems to heal faster. Praying for you and God could be testing you.

Well, I have been going to the Wound Healing institute now for about 7 months. They got my leg looking good to where the size was shrinking, etc. and then they decided to switch me to a different doctor who they felt could heal it the rest of the way. First thing, even knowing I had been on an Antibiotic for a staph infection decided their was too much sluff and debrided my leg completely down to a New looking wound, and kept on insisting this is what is Best. It has not begun to heal since then, and the size is still bigger. I have never heard of debriding over an Oasis, etc. either, and heard and read it was not necessary, and from pictures I have seen there will always being indentions in the skin like their was, but at least the wound was getting way smaller. Now it is not, and I am ready to switch back to the other doctor. At least I felt like I was getting somewhere with him. (And Yes, I am Diabetic which does not help.)

It is possible the wound did not heal and had to be debride. Ever heard of bio-gaze (don't know if this is the English name as well). Cover the wound with it. Hope it will heal soon it's really a long long time.

Yes, this has been a really long time coming, and it has been quite frustrating for sure. The biggest issues that makes me wonder is why is it looking like it is not wanting to close since being debrided when before it did? And the size of it is bigger than what is was for at least a couple of months prior to this. Personally I guess I will wait and see what Thursday brings, and then decide if it is time to go back to the original doctor they had me seeing so I feel like I am getting somewhere again.

It's been a long, tough road for you with your health. But what struck me most about reading your post was "God is continuing to challenge me to see how much I can handle." I believe you are looking at this the wrong way. God isn't challenging you, Lucifer is. God allows bad things to happen to challenge our faith and trust in Him, much like I as a parent won't interfere in my sons' lives when bad things happen. I still love them and will step in if things get beyond their control but I let them learn from their misfortunes and grow. God does not bring bad things. Look at it as a battle for your love and your soul, not things that God burdens you with. He does not litter your path with bad things but the ongoing battle between Him and His once beloved angel makes you a soldier to prove His goodness and love. It's a chess game and you are a piece on the board. Your trust will prove God's goodness and mercy and your actions to preserve your own health--eating right, prayer, exercising, doing your best at your job--will help you fight. Have you tried ginger capsules? Cheap at Walmart and they naturally reduce inflammation and infection. They do wonders for my back pain and arthritis. Ginger has never hurt anyone and has been used for eons to help people with pain, swelling and open wounds.

I agree with dragon54u about the spiritual perspective this situation presents. Remember, Jesus came to "destroy the works of the evil one," so we may "have life more abundantly," and this wound gives you nothing but.

Tina, I hope that this new doctor can make difference for you. It has been a long battle with the sore. Maybe this new way will help. I do know how you feel about wondering if he is drawing it out for the money. Stuff like that bothers me too. I don't think they should be making you feel bad for asking questions about condition or treatment though. If that continued, I might be inclined to let him know or talk to the hospital administrator. You deserve to have your questions answered. Take care and good luck!

Yes, it is because of God that things have gotten this far, even on the days like today I am feeling totally discouraged.

Tina, They are asking for volunteers in a Fresno County clinic for a study using a special compression technical to help leg wounds between the knee and ankle that have not healed. They are paying all expenses and even travel expenses for people who qualify. I've been hearing this on the radio. I don't know if it's still open, and chances are it's too far for you to participate in, but you might ask your doctors about compression as a treatment. My husband has a wound he got before Christmas that has now almost healed. It happened on an edema, so the doctor had to bandage it rather than stich it. It seems to have gotten the final scab, which we expect to come off any day now, but he has been wearing compression socks on that leg. It might be worth a try.

I can relate - I've had mine shrink considerably through much prayer, and staggered courses of antibiotics throughout the years, as I'd posted before in a related discussion. We'll keep praying; at the same time, do your best to get as healthy as you can. I've never gone the ginger route for infections, as advised by dragon54u above, opting for garlic instead. I eat several cloves to a whole bulb daily, either fresh or roasted, as much as my belly can take without getting too irritated. I've told an infectious disease doctor about this, and he gave me the thumbs up for it, so guess it's ok. I've never seen a picture of your wound (is it MRSA?), or if/how the treatment you're getting is helping. Do what you need to do to get the best care possible. I do hope they're not taking their time in treating it. Infections need prompt attention & aggressive therapy, since they're potentially fatal.

I would wonder if the Wound healing people aren't very well educated in how to treat a patient. It seems rather harsh to turn it back on you. Not really their place to do that.

Wow, having had to see so many different doctors since you started seeing the wound healing clinic has to be something that is really frustrating for you. I'm not sure what I would do if I was in your situation on that one. With that said, I hope that the rest of this year will turn around for you and you will get to feeling better in all ways so that your life will be able to move in a more positive direction.

Thanks for the update KrauseHome! I have a feeling that 2012 is going to be the year! The year that your leg will really turn for the better. Like the many things around you that's slowly turning, I'm sure your leg would follow suit! Goodluck!

Hi Tina, I know you have been through so much lately and am proud of you for keeping things in perspective during a difficult time. I know that God is watching over you and he is really testing you. I am also going through personal issues and whenever I feel like screaming I go back and re-read your posts and remember the parts where you say that God is watching over you and that God has plans for all of us. This has really helped me a lot and I want to take a few minutes to say thank you.

Hi Tina! I thought it's getting better. Hope what the doctor did is right. When you mentioned that the doctor you could switch back to the previous doctor after he did that, it sounds irresponsible to me..Whatever it is I just want to say don't give up! No matter what happens God is always with us.(^^)

Hi Krause, I didn't know about your wound, how did you get it in the first place? If you don't hear from me soon, it is because I started school last week and I am swamped, but I will keep you in my prayers..

I would do more reserach on chronic wounds and debriding before I go back to the doctor. I also advice to get asnwers form your doctor! I think he is using you and of course that is wrong! I adivce taking your husband along next time! Maybe he can stand up for you! You aren't! I know God wants you to do this! If not you leg wound will never heal and you will keep getting frustrated! I also would still look into getting social security becasue I know you will need it in the near future!

How frustrating it must be for you! I thought that things were going much better fwith your wound. I thought that this center was finally able to help you. I hope the doctor is right about the treatment. It kind of makes sense, that it has to be exposed to the air in order to heal, but I don't know about the Oasis. I am not even sure what that is. Why have they made you see so many different doctors? This last one sounds kind of cocky. Maybe you should see someone else.

I have never heard of a chronic wound before. I guess that you can get it anywhere on the body, correct? I will do a search on chronic wounds. How did you get it? I hope that 2012 is good to you. I hope that your health improves and that your chronic wound is healed. We never know what life will hand us.
