Would you pack for your journey much earlier or at the last moment?

I usually pack for my journey only on the last day and that too in the evening or night. I had been to Shirdi in North India for Shirdi Baba temple and the family of four, who travelled with me, brought so many eatables, food and fruits, air pillow, blankets and enjoyed the journey in comfort. They brought chapathi (wheat rotis), side dish, jam, bread, bun, fruits, bakery items and told that their packing starts 10 days in advance. I usually postpone packing to the last moment and end up forgetting something like brush, soap, towel etc. I think I should learn a lesson from them. What about you, do you pack in advance?

Hi Buchi, how's your journey to that place? Hope you have a wonderful journey over there with your friends. As for myself, whenever i want to go traveling, i make sure that i start packing a week ago. I prefer packing in advance to avoid ending up forgetting to bring something useful. In a few days time, i am going to travel again. I have already start to pack my things, getting ready for that journey.

HI there!
I will make a list of things and buy them a few days ahead and will only pack them the day before the journey. I dislike to prepare them earlier as it will make me feel it's not enough so I will add up some more things with it. I rarely forgot things as I already make a list what I should or should not bring. Even if it's last minute but I think the method still a bit systematic and well-organized~(^^)

Hai, making a list is a wonderful idea. You go on adding items to the list and then pack it fast withing no time, this is also a good idea.

Making a list seems to be very useful so that we need not store in advance but can pack a day before, at the same time we will not forget anything too.

Usually I do an organize packing 3 to 4 days before my travel schedule, I put them first at one place before putting them on my Lodge bag, to make sure that everything is ready and haven't forgetting something, from the basic necessity needs down to some extra things! I separate them accordingly and properly for an easy need search during or after the travel.

yes i pack at least three days in advance whenever i want to make a journey ,what ever i remember that is important i will leave whatever i am doing and put that thing into may bag ,that way i don't forget important things . packing at the last minute is not advisable if you are going away for a long time

If we remember everything, then last moment packing is ok. But it is risky.

I usually pack my bags the day before I am leaving. If I am going away for weekend or if I am having a minivacation somewhere I just pack my things, but if I am going away for a long time like several weeks or a month I usually make a list so that I don't forget anything. I pack most of my things like clothes, shoes, guidebooks etc the day before I leave and on the day where I leave I pack the last things like toiletries, my cellphone and my wallet. I need to use the toiletries and the phone on the day where I leave, so those things are among the last things that I pack before I leave the house.

You have a point Porcospino. Things like cell phone, wallet and toiletries will have to be used till the end. We cannot pack them before hand.

I start thinking about what will I take about a week beforehand, but I donĀ“t actually start packing until about a day before my trip. I might place in some handy place a book or magazine and those odds and ends I will need on the trip.

Hai Marguicha how are you friend? Thinking about what to pack is also a good idea. Only thing is that we should not forget anything at the last moment.

This topic remembers of my several journeys i had done across my life. When it comes to packing, i usually do it much earlier on the last day no before two three days because that seems to me very early. Especially when i go to abroad for vacations i do a lot of packing, but before starting to pack whatever i need, i just make to available a week before. All the purchasing and daily needs are my first priority for packing.

when i pack for a journey i make sure that i have a check list of the important things i need so i prefer to pack earlier and make sure i have all the things i need because the i learned my lesson when i went out on journey and forget some important things and cant go back instantly to get it but when it comes to foods i pack it last moment because sometimes some food spoils easily

As I first left home for college far away from my hometown, I would be eager to prepare to go home when the winter and summer holidays were around the corner. Sometimes I would start to pack the luggage few days in advance. But as the time I am out gradually becomes long, I am more and more leisurely now and for this winter holiday I bought the train ticket in the midnight and I began to pack the luggage in the afternoon and it only cost me 2 hours in all: Maybe I am customed with my journey now.

I don't pack the things in advance for the journey especially the food items. If we do so it can make the food items to turn bad. So I used to bake the things on the just a day before the journey. So that the food doesn't turn much bad. Seems it will have it's own freshness.
I think we people should do packing of our clothes and other simple things like soap, brush, comb etc before some days. So that we don't miss any of the things

You are right friend. Food items are to be made and packed at the last moment so that it can last for more days during journey.

I am known to procrastinate. I ALWAYS forget something and am not usually prepared for the unexpected. It doesn't really bother me, but it drives my spouse nuts!

For me it depends on the length of the trip and its destination. For international travel I tend to pack several days in advance. I do this to make sure I do not forget anything I might need on my trip. For local travel I will pack only a few days in advance or the day before. I want to spend my moments relaxing not rushing around packing and trying to remember everything at the last minute.

Yes, you are right Lannielui. International trips require quite a lot of packing. Proper winter clothes, thermal-ware and other necessities are to be packed properly without forgetting so that we need not find any inconvenience there. Have a nice day.

If I was going away for the weekend on Friday evening I would pack on Wednesday. I wouldn't be able to choose packing at the last minute. On an international trip of two to four weeks I would write a packing list two weeks before my trip. Then I would buy things I need for my trip but haven't got before. I would pack a little more than one week before my journey. Sometimes it is a struggle to pack all I need to take. I carry luggage for me, my disabled son and my daughter. I push my disabled son's wheelchair.
On a trip I need my toiletries, my travel towel, my clothes, a travel guide book, my net book and some snacks. I don't pack drinks if I am flying to my destination due to airport security. I like to take with me a notebook and pen. I try not to forget anything that is why I have a list that I tick off the wanted items. When I fly I have to take into account luggage allowances. I went on a budget airline to Riga in Latvia. I was only permitted to take fifteen kilos in one bag. That was for me and my son when he was thirteen months old. I had to pay extra for the five kilo travel cot. It took up space but was very light.

So much thought and effort has to be given for packing, especially when you have to travel with a disabled child, as you need so much for the basic necessities. In flights, weight restrictions are also there. Thanks for the detailed response, which gave me so much information that is useful.

If this answers your question...I'm leaving on a trip on March 1st, I have already started making out my packing list. This list is of what I need to take with me, anything I need to purchase before hand, and anything I need to do or have done while I'm away. The need for this is do to the fact that I usually have two events planned close together, so I have to pack for one, and also pack for the other one. This time I have a fire fighter academy that I coordinate, a week later I leave on my trip. I will actually start packing for the trip prior to going to the academy, So most of my packing for my trip will be done, the week between end of academy and leaving on trip I will finalize my packing and get anything else done I need too. Most trips, I make my list at least 3 weeks in advance and start packing 1 week prior to leaving. I rarely ever forget anything that I need, if I do forget something, it is just an item I don't have to have with me.

I would rather pack a day before the travel because I don't want my clothes to have wrinkles and folds because of very early packings. I am forgetful, so I would usually prepare a checklist on what to bring. And travelling light would still be preferable especially nowadays that there are lots of convenience stores along the way.

Hey Buchi_Bulla I am somewhat like you and somewhat like Sweetokelo. It's good to hear that you had been to Shirdi, even I had been to there last week. About packing though I start it 4 5 days early like collecting the things or just making a note or list of items i should carry. But in the end I have to forget something this happen with me all the time. Till date i have no exception about it. After such episode I always think that I should make a note of it but all in vain. Hope fully I will not repeat this next time :P
Good Topic felt like that I am not only one on this planet :)
Cheers !
