Hey everyone, ive been thinking a lot lately about my future and where it is headed, and all of a sudden it hit me, i wanna be self-employed by the time that I am 50 years old, I know it's kinda young but isn't it great you will be self sufficient at a young age and be a retiree at that. Not that you are actually retiring but something you own and you are in charge of is something much much more better when you have a boss. You have complete control and the best part is. No one bosses you around.

being self employed can be very stressful, I had a friend who liked this idea and in her work life had two bussinesses of her own, a hairdressing salon and then she worked for a couple of people then she had her own healthfood shop and I can tell you she was a much happier person working for other people. But I hope you get what you want, I think you will make a go of it.

Well my friend, start saving for such business. It's good that at this early you are envisioning how your life and career should be when you reach 50. At least, you have a goal to achieve, and when one has that, for sure he will work hard to attain it. Keep up that spirit my friend!

Hi deodavid I share your sentiments. I am having a full time job but I am also using my free time to find out how to sell products on Ebay. I have to search for the number of wholesalers available and the varieties of products I could sell. To be self-employed is not a hobby but a endeavour to be taken seriously. I would need to write up a business plan, put in place the rules and milestones to achieve it. It will take a lot of discipline. You are your own boss, but also the person who is wholly responsible, can't blame it on other people when failures occur. However if we have passion and determination, we are confident of success. Good luck!

Hey there naka75, Thanks for sharing how you make money i think I'll look into that, Good for you. In my experience I think what I need as a business is something that is near to my home or if not it is in my home it is great to be the boss of yourself and it is even greater if you can be at home and work all at the same time.

Hi DeoDavid, I want to be self employed even now. I just love to work without having any boss at all...but I have my own profession and this one really needs a boss. I am currently working right now but still I am looking forward of being the boss of my own in the future. Anyways, I haven't think of myself at that age. That's way too far..maybe the moment I reach 30, I will be thinking about that and would save up a lot for my retirement and just be self employed. Have a nice day!

I am also thinking about a good business...but I know I couldn't have it since I do not have any big savings to make it start. It's not yet the right time...hopefully in the next few years. Good luck to your plans. ^^

I'm currently self employed. I like the fact that you are your own boss and have control when you want to work like setting work hours.

I think it is great to be one's own boss. Though it is the dream of most people, but few of them can make the dream come true. Anyway, being one's own boss is not easy, while doing thing for others, though can not earn too much money, but don't need to think too much. I wish your dream can come true. And wish you good luck.

I have been self-employed now, for 20 years! One of the MOST stringent requirements of being successful...is DISCIPLINE! Self-discipline! Find a niche, that needs to be fulfilled, research fully...and then work like you have never worked before! This is NOT an easy means to an end! It is a job that is with you...24/7! And you must treat it so! Failure is NOT an option, and you must proceed with that mind-set...as there are still BILLS at the end of the month! Good luck! Welcome to myLot...hoping your time here is happy!

Hey there achaiwy, I think that it is great to be your own but you are correct that there are somthings about being a boss that will give you a hard time. Like deciding for everything and thinking of ways to improve how to get the people's job done but everything in life has it's pros and con's and this is one for being a boss, happy mylotting.

I've been self employed since I was 25 or 26 years old so that makes me being boss for around 26 to 27 years,ah fine and good for me but do remember that being boss or self employed suits certain traits, personality and talents the same way an employed person has to be, so it's all about self discovery and do it at the youngest age possible, good luck

Hey louievill, You are right it is something that helps us discover how we deal about things being the means you have to decide on and about everything and it could get tiresome at times. But anyways I'll try to learn from some people I know who run there businesses and also what you just said is ine of my first lessons. Thanks...

hi! You are such a well-planned person! I have never considered my life after I retired, but I guess I will not start my own business at that age. I agree with you that by owning a business you enjoy a large degree of freedom that you have never enjoyed when you are an employee in a big company, but then there are few points that you have to bare in mind. For example, you have to take the risks of losing your money as nowadays the cost of running a business is rather high, I myself do not want take the risk of losing my small sum of pension; on the other hand, you will have to spend a certain amount of time to run a business, and that means you may not have free time to enjoy your life after the retirement. Just think about it, you have already spent 30 years working so hard as an employee, now why don't you tried to use your pension and enjoy the rest your life spending time with your family? Just go and explore the world! lol

Hey there porkchopchop, That is great but there is this sense of need to still be productive once i get old and be independent of my possible children in the future but i would also like to enjoy life. But knowing myself i can't stay constantly still without doing anything, and plus it's nice too boss people around for a change.

I've always been an employee. But you're right, sometimes I think if I have my own business then I can probably do whatever I want more. I'll have more flexibility, I can come and go as I please, and, as you said, be my own boss. The only thing is, I can always expect how much I get from my salary. Having your own business will be more risky; whether you make profit or not, you are responsible for your costs.
