Interest Ranking Question

I understand how the interest ranking works, but I wanted to know, if you comment on a discussion that is in an interest you didn't add, does your rank begin to increase anyway, but it just isn't shown on your profile? For example, let's say I reply to 25 discussions in a certain interest category. Then, I decide to add it to my profile. Would I see that my ranking for that interest is already up, or does it only count after I add that interest? Has anyone had any experience with this happening to them? I know the interest ranking isn't that important, but I was just curious.

First, you are only ranked in the interests that you add, Second, you are only ranked in any interest IF other users rate your activity, not just because you happen to participate in discussions within that interest. Third, if you are rated by others then yes your ranking would appear once you add that interest.

I did see that the guide said my interest rank increases if other users rate me, but my star rating has read 80/100 since I reached 100 posts. And here I am over 400 posts later, and I'm still at 80 -- yet my interest ranks are increasing. I noticed that the increases occur where I was active, so I figured the rules or something must have changed. With the way my interest ranks have gone up my star should have increased also, if only changing to 81/100.

I rate daily, always, everything that I read. Of course there are 3 ways to rate - plus, negative or nothing at all and I use the first and the last. Anything worth being rated negative should be reported, in my opinion, so that is what I do in that case. Many others rate too as I notice the stars, and sometimes rankings, alter for several Lotters. I particulalry notice new users and some who I believe should have a higher star than they actually have right now.
