Is wearing red at a funeral disrespectful?

I went to a funeral a few weeks ago. I only had red nail polish which I didn't want to wear, so I bought some tan polish. My mom said this was a good thing because it was disrespectful to wear red to a funeral. I had never heard this before. Has anyone else ever heard that you shouldn't wear red to a funeral and why?
