Around the world, a number that believed to bring bad luck is 13. As example, in a variety of high buildings in China, there is no floors 13 and 14. According their beliefs, the number 13 and 14 is the numbers which not bring hockey. Unlucky numbers.
In the West, the number 13 is also considered an unlucky number. If we look at the numbers in elevators of high buildings of the west, you will not find the 13 floor. Usually, after the number 12 then immediately 'jump' to number 14. Or if there number 12 then up to 12 a or "up jump" to 14. Nothing the number 13.
Why the number 13 is considered an unlucky number?

Yes I have noticed this about the high buildings and the number 13. Apart from the obvious fact that a number in itself cannot be unlucky, it is totally illogical to skip floor 13 and progress to 14 instead. Nothing would actually change because floor 14 would still be the 13th floor of the building, which males the whole concept laughable.
As far as I can remember the number 13 was originally thought to be unlucky because it was the number of people who attended the last supper, after which Christ was crucified. This is an understandable origin for the West, but I cannot imagine how that could affect beliefs in China since their culture is quite different.

I don;t believe in such a myth, all number is good, even Friday 13th.....similar discussion in 6 days ago.
By the way, I just heard that the building in China doesn't have the bad number, it must be based on calculation of Feng Shui.

Some people are very concious of numbers and let it govern their lives. It is just a myth as you say but to some that myth is very strong.
If you believe in a number or a colour or a day of the week then that is your belief just the same as religion is a matter of belief. If someone believes in something then that should be respected even if you may not share that belief.

Hello advokatku...
Yes I have heard about that unlucky number. I have no idea why people think that way. Where people get that thought ? Why people believe it ? I think there is nothing wrong wit 13. All numbers are useful, we need 13 in our life. 13 is exist and just like the other numbers. It is just their believe that bring that such thing to their life.
Happy mylotting :)

i guess it's universal that number 13 is related to bad luck. Whatever the reason is, this kind of 'myth' (if i may say) ONLY HAPPEN IF YOU BELIEVE.
When you believe something, the thing will stays in your mind and somehow affects the way you think and behave. Take for example, you are living in a bulilding no.17 and there are bad things happened (water or light problem, annoying neighbour etc) then automatically you will say it's all because you are living in building no.17, blaming number for common things that actually can happen anywhere. This is how beliefs control mind, mind controls behaviour.

I have never understood the lucky/unlucky number myth, personally. To me, a number is a number though certain numbers DO hold special meanings in religion. 7 is the number of accomplishment, 7 days and 7 nights and there is 3 for trinity. 666... that is another myth of an "unholy number" and as of yet none of us understand where or exactly WHY it sprouted forth. Needless to say, nothing has ever happened to me in the presence of three sixes or a 13, is needless superstition we need to move away from in society, and religions, as there is no actual "evil" number.
Funny enough, I have had some exhaustive debates before revolving around such things as I try to explain this very thing. I tell them not to worry, the worrying and belief in the misfortune will bring it about. If you believe something bad is going to occur, you are more likely to subconsciously work towards bringing it about. I've had family in the past do this and then blame it on the number. My firm belief is that, if anything does go wrong, they lead themselves into it or was just random occurrence. In the end, the power it has over them is what they put into it themselves. The sooner learned, the less it will affect them. :)

Religion/the church started with that once. Before 13 was not an unlucky number even a lucky number in some religions (now called pagan).
BTW the number 11 is called here the number of idiots.
We do have the 13nd floor also these seats in the airplane, busses etc.
So I guess it depends on the kind of country you live if you find number 13 back or not?

yes, i've also noticed that, in Buildings, they don't have 13th floor. I don't the real reason why, but i guess, is that it was based on Judas, the traitor? The one who betrayed Jesus, i'm not sure about that, but that's what i've read or heard.
