My Dad cried when he read the following article in his newspaper, The Sun..
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4065464/Giraffe-gunned-down-for-family-holiday-fun.html#comment-rig
I must admit, I got so far with it and couldn't carry on. The sight of that SMILING family stood over a DEAD Giraffe they have just SHOT in order to have its HEAD displayed on their wall..well, it makes me feel sick to the stomach.
I know people will say, "Well, Giraffes aren't endangered" but my argument is this..
"They soon WILL become endangered if this hunting continues..remember what happened to the elephants."
If I were friends of any of these people I would disown them right now for what they've done...and NAME them!
If the article has upset you I apologise but I really need to get the word out that this is going on and has to stop.
Petition anyone?

oh how disgusting, it is about time people are made accountable for all actions, we have the technology noew, name and shame, show the photos of the people who do terrible things like this, and of course they should also spend some time in gaol...what is wrong with people.

I don't know what's wrong with them that they have to do such things for "entertainment."
It's sick..just sick.

I can't take it when they said that "these are very regulated practises. Other animals have been saved through conservation and the most money for conservation is generated from hunting."
So, the animals need to sacrifice themselves in order to sustain their numbers??? Ridiculous! Just let them alone!

Sorry, I didn’t read the article. I just can’t. It was enough to see that you couldn’t read it all and that your dad cried… I can’t put myself through that torture of ‘seeing’ it happen in my mind over and over for a week or more until it fades from my mind.
I could see hunting giraffe if they were needed for food (not even sure if they are hunted for food) but just for fun is outrageous to me. I know people hunt deer and have the heads taxidermied as trophies, but they are killed for food. My dad quit hunting deer because he just couldn’t kill them with a good conscience. My brother quit killing them too… but yes.. there are some that like to murder them for sport. I know there will be some folks here to say it’s not murder… but to kill something for fun is murder to me.

I feel bad about upsetting you all but you can understand why I had to post the article? If I didn't not many people outside of the UK would know that this went on. Power to the people an' all that. I reckon we should seek out a petition or even start our own..for the giraffes and other animals that are killed on safaris.
Now, there's an idea.

i've never understood "sport" hunting.unless you need to feed your family or it's endangering your family, there's no reason to shoot at anything.
if you want a head on your wall,go buy a museum quality fake.

The story is disgusting, but so is the idea of reporting it as a feat. The newspaper should not have posted a grosse picture, but opened a motion for that to stop. Hunting should be banned, whether the species are in danger of extintion or not. I accept killing animals so that people can eat, but not as a sport.

You are right. And there are many people that show themselves as wonderful human beings, but hunt animals AND people. It´s a shame!

Awful isn't it? Something else I know too..a zoo in China actually lets loose live animals into the starving tiger enclosure..and the tigers are supposed to be rescued and moved on elsewhere. Paying customers to the zoo are actually watching this as part of the "feeding time" routine.
The world is sick!

I've re-tweeted that site by the way. I don't go on Facebook so Twitter is where it's at..for me at least. Thanks for the info.

They let the tiger get starving and when visitors came then pretend it to be their lunch time by giving them live animal? Normally in zoo they don't give live animal to feed the wild right?
I visit a website theperfectworld.com and come to know that they are not just offering hunting trip to kill giraffe but also other animals just for fun! Plus they can choose any animal they like.

I agree with you.You spoke with the force of justice. Some people spoke plausibly and went so far as to say that “Giraffes aren’t endangered”.This is just why so many species become endangered ones.I am filled with indignation at the sight of their air in the picture where they were immensely proud of themselves.I don’t know if there is a law whereby they are all put behind bars.

I don't know how all this starts. I guess it's like a safari but instead of watching the animals, you're allowed to chase and kill them, in order to keep the numbers down.
The more humane way of doing this would be to put the lady giraffes on contraception. It has been done in the past with other animals.
I guess that's too easy and doesn't fulfill the blood-lust of hunters.
Shame on them!

This way, the bloodthirsty people can flock to there to hunt, they will make plenty of money.

I couldn't agree with you more here.. I hate such wanton cruelty. These animals have a tough enough time surviving all the other predators in Africa, without adding man to the list. I find it hard to understand those who lack compassion. I can accept that some species need culling etc. I have grown up with farming, but the farmers I know are not cruel whilst the animals are in their care. _Derek

I agree. When I used to commute from Preston to Carlisle I would often be sat next to someone on the train. On one particular occasion I spoke to a lovely Scottish lady who had actually moved to Devon in order to farm cattle. She wasn't the image of a farmer I had in my mind at all. She also told me that giving up the animals for market was the hardest thing as ALL her cattle had names. She said it's extremely difficult not to become attached to them and I can guarantee she would think giraffe killing is cruel, like us non-farmers would.

hi janey I agree thats horrid and enough people did that the giraffes would become extirnct. I never liked the idea of an
animal's head stuck the wall. leave them in the wild where they belong.thats as gross as if we stuck a stuffed head of one of our deceased family members on the wall. horrid horrid.I found I
could not look at that link it touched me too much.I would sign
a petition if asked.

Such gentle creatures, giraffes. I've seen many documentaries about them and they're adorable, especially the little ones. To kill one in cold blood like that is horrible. I'm actually glad the faces of the family haven't been blacked out as they will find it more difficult to live peaceful lives from now on, I'm sure of that.

Bad..and this kind of use of adrenaline is what eventually leads to mutations in mind that create psychopaths and serial killer. That is my opinion anyway.
Like we take only the amount of loan that we can repay, we must take only that from nature which we can reimburse. If we cant create a giraffe, we shouldnt kill it. Vandy opines.

I agree. It is well-documented that serial killers tend to start on animals before killing people..and it really needs to be addressed.
I dread to think how those kids in the photograph will turn out. Certainly not model citizens..well, they're not that now are they?
Should be ashamed.

It's sickening!
I have kids, and I would like my kids to grow up in a world where they could still appreciate animals including giraffes. Like you said(wrote), they might not be extinct now, but will my grandchildren see when they want to see the real animals that they only see in pictures?
Sad.

I know, it's terrible isn't it? Sir David Attenborough will be running out of wild animals to talk about, the way this is going.

Unfortunately the rich get what they want.
I used to work for man that owned Wehernburg Theaters.
His office looked like a trophy room.
This was about 12 years ago. Who knows what his Office and surroundings look like now. But I remember some unusual animals (whole) on display.
yea as I said rich get what they want.
Only us little people understand that and love animals.

The worst people are those that suddenly come into a tremendous amount of money and the first thing they want to do is go hunting on a grand scale.

I feel so fustrated and agry when i see daily that humans do not respect anything around them. We reached 2012 and we still have not understand our positions in this world and that we are not alone. Humans should realize that if they have to kill they have to do that for survival and food and not for fun.But unfortunately human kind is not mature enough yet so as to respect the enviroment and all living beings surrounding them. And then we are talking and proud ourselves for human evolution and development.... bla bla bla... For me humans are in zero point when i see and hear stories like that you mention today.

I agree with everything you say. It makes me sad to be a human-being, even though there is no way I would resort to hunting of any kind. It does make me wonder why we have so "advanced" brains when we're not in the same league as the animals we're supposed to share this Earth with.
