It's now time for you to alight at the bus stop. Dipping a hand into your pocket, you realize you forgot your wallet. You look at your fellow passengers for succor but they're all strangers. You've no money to pay the bus fare. What will you do?

well in this situation I htink I will have no other option that to head back home and get my wallet.. There is no way I will be going and asking strangers for money as I might seem creepy to them.. so better go home and get it and avoid the embarassement. Cheers

Oops!! In my place we pay the bus conductor as soon as we get on and my reply was based keeping that in mind..sorry for that !! Well in your case I will try to talk to the driver/collector and explain my situation and probably tell him that I would be travelling tomorrow on the same route again and I will pay them then Cheers

I go back home if I am close to my home if not and I need to go home I have a big problem. I think I will call one of my daughters to help me out and pick me up or if possible (the distance) I will walk.

In the past we had to pay when we left the bus and not when we entered the bus. Some people forgot to check their money when they entered the bus and when they wanted to leave the bus and had to pay the driver, they discovered that they didn't have any money. Then they went to the driver and asked for "a bag". When they got back to their homes the passagers had to write their names on the bag and put the coins for the fare in the bag and mail the bag to company that owned the busses. Maybe people cheated or "forgot" to send the money to the company and today that system has been abolished.
If the situation that you described had happened in the past I would asked for a bag, but today we have to pay when we enter the bus, so I would have to go back to my home and pick up my wallet. I wouldn't ask strangers for money. I prefer to go back and get my wallet. That means that I will be late for my classes, meeting, job etc, but I still think that going back is the only thing to do in that situation. Next time I would check my pockets before I left the house

I haven't been in such a situation, my friend. But i don't want to experience it because it's a very embarrassing one.
So, i would always make sure before going out, to check my wallet if i have enough fare or have loose change for the fare specially in the morning.

oh no! if i forgot my wallet, and does not have money to pay for the bus fare, i think i will talk to the bus driver. Ask him politely that i forgot my wallet. or maybe if i have a cellphone, i think i'm going to text someone i know to wait for me on my stop, so that when i reached my destination, i would pay the driver.

I'm not sure I'm quite a blunt person and in public it doesn't bother me. I would probably ask the driver and explain the situation (if I know I had the money at home)or I might just ask a stranger riding next to me. Maybe exchange numbers and pay them back. Although there are a lot of people out there that would use the kind people of the world I am not one. If nobody would lend it to me and the driver wouldn't reason I would either go back home and get my wallet or just walk to the place I was heading. It would probably be healthier for me any way! Nice scenario although I have never caught myself in one, good discussion post!

In this country, you pay the driver as you get on,or get a multiticket punched...most public transport systems here would work this way. You might get into this situation in a taxi,though...

I am pretty sure this won't happen to me because it's been my habit to check my money before getting in to any public transportation. In case this would happen to me though, I would apologize sincerely to the driver and give him whatever valuable I have that would compensate for my fare. If he won't agree to it, then I would give him my ID as guarantee that I would pay him back. Whatever it is, I am sure, the driver will surely get mad at me and may even call me stupid for not realizing earlier that I've got no money.

I would just quickly get off, telling the conductor that I forgot to bring my money. There is no other ways to get an excuse for not paying. If they don't allow you to get off and they forced you to pay, give your identity card or your belongings that you have if they don't trust you.

Oooh is this a role play thing? I like role plays.
First I would be a ninja and find some coins on the ground. Then I will pay the bus driver.
Alternatively I will act as someones shadow and sneak on the bus.
Or if I'm feeling confident I will tell the bus driver my sob story.
Or maybe I'll just go home and get my wallet.
Or ask strangers for help.
Hahaha

Wow, that is really a tough situation. That is also embarrasing cause the situation migh cause a scene and you will really be in a very awkward situation. Well, I guess in that case I will tell about it to the bus driver or the conductor and tell them the truth, Im gonna ask where their office is, give them my ID or any identification or assurance that I wil pay. I have no choice.. There is nothing else to do.

I haven't experience it but maybe if I will, I will tell the driver of my situation and will promised to pay him the sooner that I can come back and to find him. In our place, it would be easy to just go to the bus/jeepney terminal but be sure to have the plate number or jeepney body number and the name of the driver. The most that I've experienced is I told our company driver that he could leave me to a place and he could have lunch and we could meet in the office later. Meaning I am riding a jeepney but eventually found out that my money is not sufficient for the fare. I told the driver and it was fine for him so I just say thank you...

You've shown others how to cope with situation like this. But the scheme shouldn't be made a ready excuse every time the situations occurs. Passengers must at all times be aware of our day-to-day responsibilities. No malice intended. Just for discussion purposes.

I think I just would leave the bus in the next stop or I would try to ask for money to someone that look like that could help me in the embarassing situation. But, I probably would do the first option though.

I am sure the bus driver would understand that. Especially if you don't look like someone who actually do that often when riding buses. There are good drivers too who can understand and let one passenger go if they found out they don't have money or they lost their wallet.
