Oh, I love Joel Stein's writing style. Each week, when I get my copy of TIME for the week, I just flip over to his column and read what he has to say about the world. He often uses a humorous and/or satirical viewpoint, and that's my favorite part of his writings.
My father, however, says that he hates Stein. He believes that Stein is an arrogant and self-indulged critic. I think that part of the statement's true, but ah, well.

I think Stein wrote this Mitt Romney piece that I found to be the most ridiculous account of politics that I've ever read in my life. It was painful to read.
I only get Time because it comes along with my Sports Illustrated, and I have a difficult time getting through Time. It's blatantly partisan, unabashedly highbrow, and exceedingly selective as to which stories are deemed worthy of elaboration.
While violence erupted in the streets and tent cities were manufactured to spite normal society, Time lauded the protestor, empathizing with their embellished plight. For the protests that erupted two years previous? Different tone completely.
Going over the rails with 14 trillion dollars in debt isn't a worthy enough cause; wanting the wealthy to pay a few more percentage points for redistributive purposes -- front page fodder.
Time is unquestionably one of the worst publications I've ever read. I'm not sure in which time they actually exist, or in which universe. Most of the magazine is comprised of liberal opining and whimsical progressive utopian longing.
The contrast between journalism (Sports Illustrated) and true accounts observed with nearsightedness and brushed over with fiction within the bubble (Time) is certainly stark. Night and day.
But, if one is of the same mindset and wants validation, Time is very useful.
