Cockles and scallops

I love to watch some of the cooking program in the television. Most of the time I saw the chiefs cook scallops. Forgive me because I am not really good in seafood. All this while I thought that scallops and cockles are the same but from the cooking program I can see that the shape of the scallops is very much different from cockles. Can somebody explain to me the different between cockles and scallops?

Well I never heard or tasted cockles, but scallops ,now those are delicious, I always pan fry mine, but you cannot fry them long because they'll get hard on you, their round so you have to keep rolling around I always fry mine a little higher that medium heat and roll them every few seconds for about 45 seconds!
