It's exactly as the title says from when I first started school to the day I left my primary school I was good at maths. Currently, I am like horrible at it I just don't know why even I bought a few maths textbooks to do in the holidays and weekends that's how bad it's gotten. I can do the maths problem usually when I read how to solve it but if I don't revise the next day I have forgotten how to do it. I even had a maths tutor and it still had the same problem. I've been drifting through maths class for the past couple of years. If this keeps up I'll have a very shaky foundation in maths which is what I need to excel at. Why can't I remember? Anyone has encounter similar situations like this? I really need help I ran out of ideas. Thanks

i've encountered a lot of students like you. personally, i never had a hard time with math maybe because i had a good algebra teacher. algebra is the key because it is in that subject that you learn to formulate equation from verbal statements. it's like making your own formulas. remember that math is also a skill and like any other skills, it is made perfect through correct practice. so if it's the rules that you need to know by heart, practice answering rule application problems at least one hour everyday. if it is the analysis of word problems that you are having hard time with, try the rstuv method. R-read the problem, S-select and identify the given and unknown or what you are asked to fine, T-translate the verbal statements into equations, U-use the rules to solve your equation, V-verify if your answer satisfies the situation in the problem. I am an online tutor for math if you have any question i'll be happy to help. just pm me.

Maybe the level of the maths at your classes now has changed dramatically and not steadily so you can not handle the difficulty. In some countries the level of the classes is raised so sudden and abruptly and the students can not climatized themselves to the new curriculum.

Is the problem the same with other subjects you don't like? Life is tough and if you don't start out your working life with the right tools then life will be even tougher. As said above - maybe the teacher isn't the best. Well then you just have to work harder to make up for that deficiency. You can't wait for the teacher to retire. You only have one education slot before you move onto the next level.

Your brain is just like any other muscel in your body. If you don't excercise it everyday, it gets weak. You need to review things to help your brain remember the things that you learn. If you work at it I am sure that you will be back where you were as a kid, just remember that most things don't happen over night, you just have to wrok at it and keep practicing as much as possible. Know however that you are not alone, and that there are many people out there that are going through the same thing.

Constant practice is the key or it could also be that you lost interest in Math. Yes. I've encountered simililar situation. I used to be a math wizard when I was in high school but when I got to college, i lost interest and just have passing grades. Up to now I'm not that interested with numbers and problem solving which involves calculation. =)

Im still very good at math and like to help people. My strongest part is calculating out of my head. I mostly of the times dont need a calculator. Math is always my strongest part on school after gym of course :P

my experience is quite the opposite, when i was in the elementary school, i was either in the last or second to last rank in my school... i was not only suck at math but all, then on junior high i was in the middle, and at senior high school i was always on top 5 of the class. I think me is still me, there's nothing change, but the teacher is different, so i can learn better... maybe you just haven't found the right teacher that can help your math...

I have a friend who is exactly like you! The thing was she was always bad at maths and had to repeat a year in primary school just because her maths was bad. I didn't realize how bad it was until she came to my house and asked me to tutor her. What I taught her, the next day she'll forget. Now in senior year, we do a completely different maths course. She tells me she has to do a particular page or exercise over and over again just to get the hang of it. If she stops she'll forget everything. I told her she just needed to memorize the question style and the formulas but that doesn't work for her. I reckon it's all about practice, really practice and get familiar with all the question styles. Once you know that and the formulas then it would be alright. I usually learn something and before an exam go over it again and study. But maths might not just be for you, my friend who isn't good at maths prefers History or English as she is a good writer rather than a maths person.
