I have got this colleague who always like to ransack someone belonging without asking. He can just go into anyone office and look for something without asking permission. He even open the HR clerk drawer and took something from there by himself until the HR clerk realized something missing from her drawer, but when she ask anyone who took her things, no one admit, and just yesterday, she found her things on this guy table. He confronted him and guess what he said? He said "I can use it because it is the company property!".
I personally think that this guy is totally no manners and having bad attitude. He thinking that he have the right to use the company properties by taking anybody thing to use without needed to as the permission of the owner. I really hate this, and if this going to happen to me, I am going to shout at him and chase him out of my office.
Have you ever meet such a people before in your workplace? What is your similar experience?

Yeah, he really needs to learn to ask before taking, even if the objects are company property. There's also a business ethic that goes something like "cooperation is key". In other words, he needs to cut it out or be cut out. He's not being a team player if he's just taking supplies from his fellow employees and should learn to get his manners in order and start cooperating.
Actually, similarly, in school, we are taught to not take things without asking permission, even if the thing is school property. Obviously he didn't get the message.

Hi,
I think such a person do not know how to respect other, especially when he like to show bossy to others. I don't like people to shout at me, so I don't shout at others either. This kind of people will need someone to shout back at him so that he will realized how rude it is when shouting at others.

I have not encountered with such persons so far in my career dear yspmyl! But some times I heard few of my friends talking about such people! I think these people are lacking in the basic manners and etiquettes! They don't have basic training how to behave themselves in the society. They can be string head people with over confidence or may be suffering from superiority complex!
This type of people have a shallow thinking and narrow brains1 They can't understand the office discipline or protocol to be maintained in the office! They must understand that there are seniors and juniors in any office and a junior is always expected to pay respect to his/her senior! Apart from this there are different posts in the office as per the designation and those posts are to be regarded and respected as per he office rules.
He/she can't simply gate crash one's privacy and use the things without permission just because everything belongs to the Company! He/she is unaware of the rules and regulations of the office then. In office though the property belongs to the company things are issued to certain persons on annual basis, which means that the particular person is responsible for those things issued to him/her! It become s the responsibility ofthe person posessing such things to take care of them! How can anybody come and use these things without the permission?
Can he use the Car provided to the Boss of the office by Company just because it belongs to the Company? No, because he is not entitled to do so! similarly here also if he is not given certain things which he is taking from others means either he is not entitled to get those things in the office or he must have misplaced hos things and now he is trying to misplace other's things!
Anyways! I will never appreciate such behaviour and I wold also react in the similar way that you explained if ever encountered with such situation! Thanks dear friend it was a nice discussion!

Hi AkRao,
Yeah, I think what you say are correct, he needs to understand and relearn the rules and regulation of the office and learn again the manners and etiquettes. Only by then, he will know what he should do before using someone else belonging (or the company belonging)
When talk about the car, our company have got 2 car, one is using by the sales manage and another one is using by the MD, our MD have mentioned before that the car cannot be use or bring back for their own use. So, so happen that this MD was relocated to other branches so, the car was available, and just because this guy have to send the MD to the airport, and afterwards when we all left for work, this guy drive the company car home instead he left his own car at the company. So, can you imagine how bad is this guy's attitude. I think the boss must give him warning on that, otherwise, he will keep abusing the properties of the company.

I did meet a similar person in my ex office. This guy was having problem in his personality. It was not surprise to find out someone sat on your place to do his work after we returned from the Gent or somewhere else just for a short while.
He would sit there for very long period without bothering you at all.
ha! ha! Most of his Peers were not comfortable to him. Luckily, one of his peers was kind enough to correct his mistakes. This peer spend a lot of times to chat to him and finally he changed.
I hope you will do the same by showing your kindness to correct him.

So far I have never met a person like that. He indeed had no manners. While it may be true that most of the things there are properties of the company, he should also think that something that one of his colleague has - is the responsibility of that person. Means, whatever is issued to that person he will be accountable whether it is a cheap pen or a small pin. If this person was questioned for always missing office supplies (which that guy is always stealing or well borrowing without permission) only that guy will be accountable for that. He should at least try to ask for a permission if he don't have those things and he needs it. Otherwise make a requisition so he won't need to roam around the office to get things that are supposed to be a 'property' of his colleagues.

Sometime I just don't understand why some people just do not have the common sense that even thought those are the company properties, but still it is under the responsibility of the person who are constantly using it. If a person is normal, when he enter a office to looking for something, he will first ask or at least acknowledge someone in the office, but this guy no, he will just enter the office and straight go to any table or cabinet and look for something without asking anybody. That is what I cannot accept.
