If you could choose how a movie should end....

Last night I finally got a DVD copy of "Something Borrowed" after quite a long wait. I am really such a huge fan of Kate Hudson so I was pretty excited on this one. It was a good movie so far however I personally didn't like the ending so much. Somehow I wished Rachel should have ended up with Ethan instead of Dex who barely fought for his love for Rachel. Ethan had always been there for Rachel, he had always defended her, he took a lot sacrifices because he couldn't be selfish about his feelings for her. But then I can't help but think it ended loosely. It was unheard of what happened to Ethan or even to Marcus or even to Claire. There were really cool characters who just disappeared in the ending. For me there wasn't enough resolution at all. Have you ever watched a movie and wished you could choose how it should end?

Actually, at Hemisfair in San Antonio 1968, they "allowed" you to pick certain actions, but generally the crowd always picked the same line. Now, the movie Clue had different endings that showed, so that was interesting...

That's really interesting. I haven't seen a movie with choice endings. There was once a soap opera though

If that is true you should direct a movie and you decided your own ending

I wasn't trying to demean the director of the movie. Am I not free to comment and give my own thoughts or reviews on a particular film?

There are movies that the ending makes the movie and then there are movies that are ruined by the ending. I haven't seen Something Borrowed yet, but it is unfortunate that the ending did not end in the way you wanted. I did a search and at least one critic agrees with you http://www.buzzsugar.com/Something-Borrowed-Review-Starring-Kate-Hudson-John-Krasinski-16283996 There is always fanfiction, maybe someone out there as written an ending that you may find more appealing. The book Something Borrowed has a sequel, Something Blue, maybe they will make the second book to give closure.

So now I understand. Something Borrowed was based on a novel, and judging from one comment that the movie has exactly and perfectly followed the book, then I should say that I did not approve of how the author ended the story. It is true that the romance between Rachel and Dexter have been given more importance in the end than the friendship. If it were up to me, neither girls got Dexter, Ethan got Rachel, Darcy got no one but ended up mending her life and thinking her life through and seriously planning on changing her personality. And there should have been a hilarious twist of events for Marcus and Claire. I guess you should watch the movie so you can relate to what I am rambling about.

I loved how Something borrowed ended though- since i think Dex and Rachl were really in love and if kate didn't arrive, they would've been together later on, and they loked happier. I am waiting for Something Blue- the sequel of this, where Kate H is pregnant and Ethan helps her..

Ooo, I like that question. There have been several movies wherein I wished I could change the endings but most of the time it weren't movies, it was cartoons. Remember Power Rangers back in the 1990s? It sometimes gets me sick seeing the rangers winning every battle. It was boring to watch knowing that the ending would result in the rangers' victory even through what they have been faced with. I could still remember myself laughing with joy during the times their robots would be destroyed and that was enough even though they would find a new power with new robots. I do still wished I could make the rangers lose more of the time =)

I was a kid back then but I was more interested in the rangers losing :P I and a few of my friends had a topic like this before and I mentioned the same thing to them as I had to you. Suprisingly, majority of them actually agreed to me!

I did not watch the movie that you have watched last night. However, i did watched a movie and hope that i can choose how the ending should be. In fact, not only did i watch a movie, but many many movies and dramas. Sometimes even if the show is very nice, but has a sad ending or a ending that i didn't really like, it would really make me lower the ranking of the show in my heart. There was once i watched a drama and towards the end of the sequel, the producers actually allowed us, the viewers to decide what ending we wanted. They did it in such a way that there was a voting system and viewers can sms in to vote how they want the ending to be! It's quite interesting but it's just another way for the producers to make mroe money!!

I remember one soap opera doing this. They seemed to have picked up the dilemma of the viewers as to whom the leading man should end up with because the each of the two leading ladies had such good chemistry with the actor that they had to let the public viewers choose through texting. However, I doubted if they really followed the poll. I was thinking that they had already finalized the ending and used the votes only to generate money.

I didn't find anything wrong with the ending of Something Borrowed, felt the story was good enough. I have many films because of crappy story and bad acting but till now I have never disliked any film due to the ending, so I haven't felt there should be different ending to any film I liked ...
