I just come across this seemingly strange song but later found out this one is great, too. So what is the longest song any of you know ever recorded? in minutes?

In minutes? You do the math... this one's eleven years old & due to finish in 2999! http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_longest_song_ever_recorded

Haha. I thought I have stumbled upon what would be the longest song in the world. Now, it seems I am wrong. However, I don't believe this very long song (999 years in the making) will ever become great or phenomenal. It will only be a lame song. How will the initiator of this idea live to see the completion of his work? That's just nonsense. But I think there are only a few long songs that really make sense. One of them may be Bon Jovi's Dry County, which I happened to come across lately.

Yeah! What's the point of it being the longest song when people don't like hearing it? Most "real" songs by "real & popular" groups weigh in at around the half hour mark. Pink Floyd & others come to mind. I think it all started in the 1970's to try & record longer than other bands. They figured if it was long & good & told an interesting story that people could relate to, it'd get played on radio more often (making more $$) because the DJ wouldn't need to shuffle through so many different records all the time. Just play American Pie or the Bee Gees & that oughta do it for a good eight or so minutes!
