Why would you make a laptop with speakers on the bottom of it?

I was reading reviews on the laptop I have, before I bought it, and I read that the speakers were on the underside of the laptop.
The big question was why would they put them there? The complaints were that sound was muffled because of that, and that it was foolish for them to be there.
The other complaint was the numerical key pad to the right of the main keyboard. I don't know why people would complain about this, I appreciate having it on my laptop. It's standard on any PC keyboard, so why not on a laptop if it's possible?
I guess because mine's a 17", it is possible to put one there.
I haven't really needed the speakers, co I can't complain about them being on the underside, but if I do need them, I don't know what it will be like with them there. And until I get my cooling pad, I can't say if it's going to be as useless as people say.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I like having the numerical keypad on my laptop as well. I just wish the keyboard for my iMac had that. I have gotten used to using the numbers at the top because that is the only option on my wireless keyboard. Because of that, I find that I don't use the numerical keypad on the laptop all of the time like I did on my old laptop. But I really do look for it when I get a new one.

Different folks different strokes, some people may love it that way, besides its the companies idea and they normally do a lot of research and collect opinions from the general public about upcoming designs , so I guess it was generally accepted from the survey they conducted, I don't really see anything wring with it.

I think you are right about the keyboard, because having a numerical key pad to the right is something thats normal for a PC keyboard like you said. But duo the fact that it need some extra space, their is no place for the speakers on that side. So they have to place them on the borrom side.
I have a netbook with speakers on the bottomside but they always work well and the sound is great. But when my netbook isn't on a flat surface the sound gets disturbed and the netbook itself gets hot because of the the bad airflow. So why would you place in on a surface that isn't flat?
