Why the fear?

I always speculated that the the main reason humans fear death and/or dying stem from the simple fact that we are uncomfortable with uncertainty. The same thing that drives us to be wary of aliens, ghosts, religion and yes, dying is because there is no definite authority and no current method of verifying these phenomena. We want to feel secure and certain in all things that we do, partake in, believe and ultimately experience. Death, however, doesn't give us that satisfaction. The only way to not be afraid of death is to make it into a certainty. How to do so is a worthy scientific venture.
