Running in heels?!

Why do the folk who make our TV cop/coroner/ME shows insist on dressing their female characters so inappropriately for their jobs? We've had to put up with long-haired, big-chested women wearing uniforms that are two sizes too small, for decades, and I quite accept that this is what the majority of men want to see. What I personally find most irritating is seeing female characters running around in ankle-breaking six-inch-heeled shoes or boots! We all know they can only run as far in them as one take!
Have you ever seen regulation police footwear? It certainly isn't pretty but it does do the job when it comes to chasing and catching criminals. Come on TV producers, let's have something real for a change! NCIS has got it right!
What terrible examples have you seen on TV?

Hey! I used to be able to run for a train nearly every night in my heels! But I admit that running down the high street for a train is not the same as chasing bad guys ;-)
These days I'd rather be in those rather unflattering police issue shoes than my ankle breakers. I've got so much more to concentrate on than just being upright!
TV is fantasy. It makes me want to yell at it. I don't watch it much, as you can imagine!

I do like a good story, well told on TV. I agree that TV and film is mostly fantasy. I really like watching the Syfy channel because I know I'm going to be seeing something fantastical and not true to life. When I watch cop shows, I want them to have a ring of truth about them. I know that is too much to ask really, although our UK ones are definitely grittier and more realistic than most of the ones we buy from the US.

I totally agree with you, although it maybe fashionable I cannot say I have ever seen a nurse or doctor go running down the corridor in heels. Haha Unlike what I've seen on House where it seems that most of the females wear heels to work. It shouldn't be a fashion statement you're there to work not model. I totally agree with you though without a doubt they should add a little reality to some of these shows even if they are fanatasy, it would kind of help the mindless zombies come back down to earth anyways. Or they probably wouldn't even notice haha.

I wholly agree with you!!! This CSI whatever her name was, that had to go away because someone was after her, a beautiful actress with black hair and white skin was the type that wore high heeled boots to chase criminals. I envied her. I cannot even put on those kind of shoes without having my feet hurt. There are all sorts of irritating costumes in those shows. My father was a scietist and he buttoned his apron. The idea is to wear that so that clothes don´t get dirty. But in these shows noone bothers to use the buttons: it´s cooler the other way.
