I'm stressing so much because of very slow internet connection!

Why in heaven's name is my internet connection speed like the speed of a turtle?! I have more than a dozen important sites opened in different tags and I'm already using both my chrome and Firefox just to be able to finish my work.
I pay the ISP for quality connection but whenever it rains, the connection goes down. I know I should change connection but the taxes to pay is very expensive. But staying with this connection is SO not worth it. I'm getting migraines just moving about. x

Just lower your temper, you might get older with stress of such connection. You can call up your internet provider and ask them about that problem.you can also choose to other internet provider maybe they have better service compare to the one you are using.this is just a small things to be stress so much, but I understand you specially when you have a lot of things to do using internet connection.

I have an ISP of my choice, the problem is, they have no good connection in my place. We are so far off from their service perimeter. And the other problem is as I've mentioned before, taxes for the previous connection are so distressing more than my slow connection.

Have you gone through the disk cleanup or deleted cookies? I'm not an expert by any means. And I pretty much hate my internet company too. Just trying to answer your discussion I got logged out of my e-mail twice. Annoying! But it's so much trouble to switch. Especially since I have my phone and TV through them as well.

rose no os is going to run full speed with over 12 tabs all open at the same time, you are straining it to the utmost limit I know as I also found out the hard way.cut the tabs down toi maybe four or five and set your anti virus to only scan fully once a week. these two steps really speeded my my own cable internet a lot. try it an yo u will see I am right.

If it's e-mail, why not check the "remember me" box usually found below the signing in page. Those kinds of things helps me quite a lot.
Nope, I did not do any disk cleanups or delete cookies. I've just recently done those but it didn't help me one bit. The only thing that helps hasten my chrome to a speed it's supposed to run on(which is dependent to the bandwidth speed) is delete plug-ins.

Sorry, Hatley! I already did that and it didn't work as expected. Most of my windows that were open are for research, learning, earning and browsing. I already closed all windows related to my research after taking note of them. I also zeroed the browsing. T_T
At least now that the time is the time where people are already deep asleep, the connection became better. Thanks for the advice, though!

I have a brand new laptop and I'm getting extremely slow speeds myself.
I thought it was my old laptop, but after getting this one, I figured that it was the router.
After more investigation, I realized that our internet speed is being throttled by our ISP due to one of the others in this house abusing the p2p sharing. He uses it all the time, and it really slows us down.
There are 3 of us on the wireless network in our house, and he's the only one on a wired connection.
We're being switched on Tuesday to a better service with another company, we finally gave up on this slow speed crap.

I don't think it would make a difference in our case. If our ISP is throttling our speeds, then there's nothing we can do to change it.
The company we're switching to will throttle speeds, but only for p2p sharing and only between the hours of 4:30pm to 2am. So it wont affect us unless we need to watch something online. But with cable, we wont need it.
All I'll need to do is watch a couple of back episodes of one show online, and I can do that directly from the show's website.

You can always change the bandwidth distribution using your SOHO wireless router, you know. Even if the computer is wired, once the priority of bandwidth distribution is altered, you'll be having your own fun with the connection.

Is that so? That's so unfair of the ISP.
Is throttling your connection even legal? Are you even required to pay for their services in the same value as "not throttling" your bandwidth?

sinfulrose on my windowsXP if I have that many tabs opened at once it will just crawl or stop, you are overloading your OS so close as many as you can , at least if you are done with some do close them too many tabs open slows the pc right down also if you are running
a virus scan daily it will also slow you down I have cable internet on fastest speed but still if I have more than four tabs at one time it will really slow you. I have set my virus protection to do a full scan once a week and I am now really speedy but still mylot itself right now is slow loading. a protest by contacting the admins might result in speeding things u p too. but tryi not opening more than five tabs and you will see your pc will run much faster. good luck

My OS and computer is alright, Hatley. I do close unused windows ASAP. I just open more because I'm multitasking. My connection just slowed down when I made this discussion due to the rain and the number of people who're using the same ISP are increasing because it's the time when they return to their respective homes. When I mention the rain, I mean that there are certain equipment in my ISP that tend to break down because they're using old technology and rarely upgrades them. Sadly, even if I close most of my tabs and stick to one, as long as the connection is as crappy as mine, there is nothing I can do but whine.

By the way, instead of anti-virus, I'm strengthening my Firewall more: My router's firewall and each end device's firewall in my household. Anti-virus is only necessary whenever there are viruses; anti-malware for worms and spyware. So far we've never received a virus ever since I made this kind of configuration in our network. Hope this helps in protecting your files and programs, Happy MyLotting!

I'm gaining confidence with sun's service. I do not have a stick but the sim card is in the cell phone and using bluetooth I get it to connect with the laptop. Its only a little over $2 for three days unlimited surfing. What's good is that I only had to buy the sim card which cost not even $2. I'm looking forward to globe's modernization program but at the moment I'm quite satisfied with sun's and I am only using the sim card!

Sun is quite good but I do not recommend it to my household. (I admit, I'm the network admin...) We are using 3 laptops, 1 desktop and 1 cellphone that can connect to the LAN and the net. The speed they give isn't anything faster than my current ISPs if you divide the bandwidth between those end devices with their fastest plan. I did the math. :(
Their connection is only good for 1 to 2 computers despite their promo saying 4 computers can share the connection. Yeah, you can get 4 computers running the net but you'll have to wait for quite a bit...especially when you wish to use a secure connection...when I say you have to wait, you really have to wait...which is a bother still.

Smart broadband is the most crappy connection one can ever get. It's partnered with PLDT broadband, which is what I am currently using, and both companies should stop getting more consumers already. "They are biting off more than they can chew," as I said...

There are some internet boosters like roughclaw but I'm not sure what your ISP is and I think they only support smartbro users. It is called a reflector if I'm not mistaken and will try to have one soon if I get to the stage I should have it.

I encountered this problem from time to time. My worst and latest instance was when my provider didn't provided me internet connection for four weeks. Sometimes, when I had the patience - I just wait it out. As much as I want to, I am second-guessing if I should jump ship to another ISP provider. I have a feeling that the other provider's service is going to worse than my current one. I also don't have the patience because I need to be online everyday. Although I have minded to change connection speeds, the budget can't really afford it right now. I'm just thankful taht sometimes the provider does its job or else, it's the some for jumping the ship.
For some advice, pick one browser and close one of your browsers., I had a feeling that the connection is cut into two since two browser are open.

Four weeks is a serious loss of time and money online. I also experienced that situation where my ISP wouldn't let me through to the net too but later I realized that I am being denied of service due to connection traffic on a certain port... When I learned of this the first time, I called my ISP and ranted and ranted until they gave me a clear connection. The next time I experienced this, I did another way to get back my connection.
4 weeks is a serious problem, have they charged you for services in that month?

Yeah, they did. I feel completely ripped off. I was chewed and create a scene in their local office and threaten to complain to the government agency who handles this situation if this ever happen to me ever again. I also sent a angry email to their head office. Since then, I guess they tread too carefully when they see paying my bills.

I do sometimes face this problem of slow internet connection. Sometimes it is my computer fault and sometimes it is the provider's fault. When ever the computer is slow I ask my son to check the computer and within minutes everything return to normalcy again.

If it's only a slow computer, I can fix that easily. The one thing I can never fix is a slow internet connection because I don't have the controls for it's routing.
It's a nice thing that you have a son to check your unit. I guess he never complains? Because I do when my mother have problems with hers every single minute of every single day with her computer. She would even call my attention when a message will tell her that the file she's downloading might be dangerous. I had to hold my breath for 10 seconds and tell her that everything is normal and that she shouldn't worry too much about it if the site she's downloading from is trust-worthy. And that's what firewalls normally do, give you a message about a certain file if you're downloading from the net.

We have become so used to a very fast connection that slowing down became out of the question. Then when the time to choose our options, we can't do anything because of time consumption. lol(I am rhyming. XD)

If I get slow speed of connection I will definitely blame the ISP for providing me poor service. Like you they always uncertainty that they will give us the speed like what they told us before and I really hate them. No matter if I change the provider, the service will still the same.I don't believe them at all but I need to use the internet connection so even I get mad over them, there is no use~

It also happens to me, I am paying 1000 pesos for my internet connection yet the connection is not stable. I am using unlimited connection for broadband, I could not able to switch for DSL because I am always travel and DSL for this is not advisable.

What is the name of your ISP?
Unfortunately, broadband is not advisable to my household. We had too many end devices that needs to be connected to the net.
I hear SUN is a good broadband ISP...

That kind of situation is both a headache, and a despairing situation for me. Just imagine a 3 day no connection almost made me nuts until I got my hand on a very interesting book that I didn't put down the entire day. And when I finished I went back to going crazy and my brother had to give me my sketchbook, pencil and eraser just to shut my ranting. -__-
That experience is the worst, according to him. lol

I hate having a slow internet connection which really makes me mad and irritated.I usually stop connecting and sleep or read books instead to avoid being mad.I guess you should change your provider or divert your attention or time into something that keep on trying to connect the net with that slow connection.

I'm thinking that way too. And I really need to not to stress myself by doing other things aside for waiting for my windows to complete it's loading. It's just that I feel like I'm wasting time if I can't easily move around the net because I am earning money for whatever I do, after all.

You have a slow computer? Something wrong with your router?
You can also call the corporation who provides your connection. Maybe they can find the problem of your connection. Happiley enough my internet goes like a speed train :D

My computer can handle multimedia tasks so it's very fast in terms of speed, power and processing. The only problem I have is the slow loading of websites. If I can change the circle that symbolizes the loading to a turtle walking on land, I would have. At least that way, I'll be more happier seeing a cute turtle walking in my computer.

Hi SinfulRose,
I do have this kind of problem sometimes and it's really very disappointing. I only have a very hours online since I have my regular work, so I tend to be in a hurry always..and it's sad because I have a very slow internet connection.
Good thing it isn't that often that's why I am not too stress out like you. I only open firefox and a lot of tab to finish everything and to be more productive today. But I know I need enough time.
I really hope that your connection will be faster soon.
Happy Mylotting. ^^

I'm looking for more options than what is commercially available. I plan to change our ISP soon. Good luck also in being more productive online! Happy MyLotting!

It thankfully does not rather happen all that often to me. But when it does, it rather tends to be a cause of annoyance. A slow Internet connection especially in this day and age, is like rather having two rather large weights chained to your ankles as you attempt to run the marathon. There are a lot of times where people charge outrageous prices for what they claim to be higher quality but it is far from the truth.
Obviously might be a problem with the ISP. Obviously there would be something wrong with it, as it cannot handle a little rain. I'm just glad that doesn't happen to me, because it rains quiet often. Obviously faulty ISPs are going to give huge problems and hopefully it can be resolved, but it does seem like they are less than forthcoming with the matter.

Diagnosing the reason why a usually fast connection becomes slow is a pain because of the time investment on your part. I've had this problem with both my PC and my laptop. Because I'm WiFi connected on my laptop, it should be the slowest. When my desktop PC, directly connected to cable provider, slows down more than my laptop I already know the problem is with the PC. One day I found out 70% of my hard drive was being used all the time. A couple weeks later I found out my son had downloaded an entire movie to the PC. After removing it the PC was fine.
There are many reasons why a connection runs slow and if I find that slowness is intermittent I call my provider who is quite helpful in helping me determine the reason.
Good luck on your quest!
