Comcast Limits Bandwith to 250GB/month

I was really upset when I found that Comcast (internet provider) started limiting all users to 250GB of bandwidth (both up and down combined) per month.
If one is to go over that amount there is a warning. If one goes over that amount again the service is automatically terminated.
Now I agree that 250GB (2500MB) sounds like a lot of traffic and it is until one considers that I have two laptops, one main computer, three TVs hooked up to internet services (HULU, Netflix, ROKU, and streaming NBC, CBS, FOX, etc....). On top of that I have been considering adding home phone service with a service like MagicJack.
One can purchase games online from Amazon and Direct2Drive to name two that allow you to purchase a game and download it directly instead of waiting for it to be delivered.
This all takes up a monster amount of bandwidth.
As an example, if all I did was watch movies and did nothing else on the internet, 2 HD movies a day for a month would push me to the 250GB limit.
My internet provider (Comcast) does not offer me to purchase any additional bandwidth. It's either don't go over or get shut off.
What do you feel about this and do you have any solutions to the problem that I am having.
Thanks
Zelo

I think that it is awful that your internet provider is limiting the bandwidth that you are able to use in a month period. Really, being that you are unhappy with it, the best thing that you can do is to fire them. Instead of using the cable provider for your internet access, you should get a DSL line coming into your house. When you call them to tell them that you are leaving, they might be willing to lift the restriction.

DSL carriers are starting to do the same thing. The carrier here is CenturyLink (a subsidiary of Sprint) and starting 2/1/12 they are imposing the following limits:
"CenturyLink's download guidelines are designed to support today's download usage patterns. Our updated plans include the following download usage limits:
1.5Mbps plans - 150 Gigabytes
Plans greater than 1.5Mbps - 250 Gigabytes"

At least it seems that at this time they don't just shut you off when you are to go over your limit. It just seems crazy that you can't purchase more bandwidth when needed.
The one way to go is to have a T-1 line directly into the house (about $199/month) or to go with a business solution which is much more expensive and slower... or to just watch how much bandwidth is being used. Kinda sucks if you ask me!
Thanks for great answer.
