Does the myLot stars create any impression on your mind ?

Hi friends , I was wondering that what the different mylot stars mean to you ? The colors and numbers in the stars signify our rank and status in the myLot community . I personally feel happy to see my blue star but other than that I am not in the rat race . I like to spend time here discussing when ever I get time . I welcome responses to my discussions and the stars and colors mean nothing to me rather I concentrate on the viewpoints . Do you consider the stars and numbers ? How does it affect you ? Please share .

The stars and the numbers don't affect me at all. It is the content, the discussion topic and the responses thereof that matter to me. The star system doesn't often logically represent the trueness, the caliber and the consistency of the responder. Also, the system is based on adverse notations by other users and hence can be biased.
I log onto mylot infrequently, and to my reckoning, I have always had a red star fixed at 90.

I concur with the opinion you express . It's the quality of content and the variety of opinion that matters . I have noticed that even with low reputation as per stars there are members who contribute high quality content . As you said ratings ,which may not always be unbiased , may affect our reputation . So no point running after star .

Hi rollylolly, frankly speaking I didn't even know the significant
of the star or number...My neighbor who finally talked me into
signing up to mylot was a lot more excited of the stars and numbers
than I was because they mean anything to me at the time...after
she explained what they meant I was very pleased with my quick
progress...But really I join to be a voice where ever I could I
must say that I am a very opinionated person and this forum is a
place where my opinion may really help others...I may have some
experiences or knowledge that may be of interest to others..
But the answer to your quiry is NO... it is what it is...I would like
to think I would be just as honest in my expressions with a another
color and number as I am with a blue 10....

Hi friend ! Exactly what I feel . It is our opinion that matters and not our stars . MyLot gives us the opportunity to voice our opinion and for that I am thankful . A higher star makes us feel happy and that's all . It's not that I make a mindset to evaluate a person's response based on his star status . The quality of the content is what matters to me .

I don't take a lot of notice of stars or their colours. It's what people contribute that counts. If I think a discussion, response or comment is on-topic and good, it gets a 'plus' from me (and will increase that person's 'star' value); if I think that it's a *particularly* poor post and not in the spirit of MyLot, it gets a 'minus' (and is almost certain to be reported, besides).
Many people with low stars make very good contributions. Often the reason that they have low star values is because they are outspoken and MANY people misuse the rating system (even though MyLot say that they have checks in place to prevent it). That is one reason that I don't take too much notice of 'stars'.

but owlwings as saavy as you are about mylot you must remember the higher our reputations the better our earnings as our reps are figured in the mylot algorithm, I love mylotting for content too but am glad I have at least got to red where I guess i am stuck for one lousy point that would take me to blue. I once had a blue star but was
trolled and actually the admins caught the two guys and tossed them out when they bragged about taking down the bossy old lady who said smoking was not good for your health, I was down to five but mylot restored me to a high yellow then all my good friends here helped me to finally get to red and 94. I was outspoken when I first came but that little incident sort of made me be more careful lol. so red is fine if I never get to blue. I am a happy camp er here anyway.

Yer I too have noticed that people with much lower star values contribute quite high quality content . I was enjoying a blue star for quite sometime when suddenly it vanished for some weeks and came back again (a meagre difference of 1-2 %) It never mattered to me as my only concern is to voice my opinion and contribute material of high standard as per my capability .

rollylolly what a lot of newcomers here do not realize and they should as its clearly written in the guidelines is the admins
uses our reputations along with our earnings to compute our final
earnings in their mylot algorithm. so we are told there that the higher your reputation the better your earnings. as for me I need my earnings even as I love mylotting for all the social side and love all my lot friends dearly I still like to be high on rep so I can earn more. a lot of y
ou newer ones do not seem to understand your reputations have direct bearings on your earnings so go read the guideline if you doubt me. I a m an older user here probably the
oldest and so far I am the no.,1 in ranking too so I know some facts about mylot.

Hatley, I do have to disagree with you here. It is nowhere stated in the FAQs (and certainly not in the Guidelines) that the reputation is used in the calculation of earnings!
What we are told is that the Discussion Rating System is:
1) " ... factored in to the proprietary Earnings algorithm." http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx#1
2) used to calculate the 'star' rating. http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq11.aspx#4
In other words, if you (for whatever reason) receive negative ratings, your earnings will be affected and so will your 'star'. However, if you subsequently post excellent quality responses and comments (and discussions) and receive positive ratings that will immediately affect your earnings, though your 'star' may take some time to recover. In other words, the 'star' rating and the earnings are two INDEPENDENT things which are both influenced by the Discussion Rating System. It is quite wrong to think that "your reputations have direct bearings on your earnings"

Hi Hatley, why would anyone doubt what you have stated is this post?
I have not seen any other mylotter with more posts/responses than you,
that has to count for something...Like you know what you are talking
about..I enjoyed reading this post because I am one of those newcomers
and I did learn something...I wasn't familiar with the star and numbers
as I stated before but I do know that it truly helps the amount of earnings
we get, so I do appreciate your knowledge and the fact that your try
to help us newcomers..
It was terrible that other would cause someone repution to go down just
for speaking your true opinion.
any thanks again....

Thanks Ms. Hatley for your response . I always rate positive the discussions , response and comments which are good and up to the mylot standards(as I experienced being here for 6 months) . You are a veteran member and the highest contributor of good content and I wonder why you are still struck at red star . Anyways it doesn't matter to me as I admire your posts and have much regards for you .

In my case, it does not really creates anything or creates and imagination that I can shut off no matter how much I try. I think if you concentrate on it you will not be able to provide honest feedback and opinions on conversations

Hi... Yes, I like the blue star too... Who wouldn't like a good rating, anyhow??? myLot means a lot to me... myLot is my virtual family. It has given me real and true friends. I never got so many good guys in my life... myLot is a place where I can ask any question and I am positive that I'll get the best answers, and all the answers will cover every aspect of the question... myLot means a lot to me...
Thank you!!!

In fact I seldom will pay attention to the reputation star. Since I don't think it really means you are really popular or have a good fame in Mylot. As sometimes some people will rate your posts negative on purpose. And therefore your stars can not be blue. This is not a very fair rating in my opinion.
I love China

You are right friend the ratings which are not foolproof and often biased affects the color and value of stars . So it would not be justified to evaluate a member's status on them .

Well it certainly would feel nice to see a nice big blue star next to my name but given the fact that I am not too active here, I can hardly complain. Therefore I am quite happy with the star I have which as you can see is a red one. Earlier I used to be very active here and after 100 posts got a yellow star which went into a red star after a while of rigorous activity and it is stuck there till now. I plan to be more active here and see if it makes any difference in my star. But I have noticed that those who have higher ratings are the ones who write at length which clearly points to the fact that we should write in depth in a response or discussion stating our point of view clearly.

You are right oindy that those who are very active and can spare thme here are the owners of the blue star . The quality has no connection though as I have seen that lower ranked (as per the 1-10 star mark) contributing high quality posts . Wish you get the blue star soon :-)

It does really not have all that much of an impression on me. At least it doesn't rather seem all that much that affects the quality of the discussion. Although I am pleased at my rank in some small way. After all, that was rather a culmination of some time and effort to rather say the least. So that much does rather put a smile right on my face.
However, in many ways, the chase to the top, is often times more fun than the actual culmination of the journey. Those with lower ratings are not necessarily lesser posters, its just that they have not been around long enough or have not really found their feet here at myLot. Well most of them to say the very least. They are still at that fun moment of chasing.

I absolutely agree with your views . Irregular posters get a lower rank but that does mean they present low quality posts . I like your style of chasing as well . It's nevertheless a good target to achieve in myLot .

Well rolly
What i am given to understand is higher rating means more income, though i am not sure about it, we are not supposed to talk about how we get paid..
these days i am not very regular here, becoz of health issues, but i feel happy if the rating is 10, the blue star..
Best of luck.

I can't say that the stars really mean that much to me at this point. I'm still fairly new here participation wise, and up until now I never really knew what the stars meant anyway, so that you for letting me know that. But to answer the question, I don't consider the stars and numbers much when replying to discussions etc.

As I already mentioned its the interesting topics and response that appeal to me . I try my best to post quality content . Stars and reputation may come and go but our honest comments should persist .

Hello rollylolly,
Star color never effected my mind too i never thought that i should have a blue star
.I know if it starts effecting than i will be stressed because its not in our control but in others control as they rate us as per the quality of our comments and responses.
We should try not to bother about our star as it only gives stress not anything else.

@rollylolly (2843)

Yes you right friend . Let's not stress with it rather concentrate on our quality of contribution . Ratings are never foolproof and that affect our stars as you said already .

absolutely correct rollylolly. i prefer your view. even I think like that. though I am a new user. but after get registered with Mylot I was surprised. Like for using internet we are getting paid instead of doing any huge work. But best think is we are getting more friend from all over the world to share each other views and can spend a time with them.
