Did Chuck Bartowski Get Too Cool? Is That Why the Series is Ending?

You can remember (maybe this subject's avatar helps a little) when CHUCK first started, Bartowski was the ultimate geek---maybe he didn't have nerdy glasses; but he had school-nerd hair, talked like a nerd (obsessing over sci-fi fantasy things and -over computer-technology, etc.), and was indeed treated like a lower, nerdier class of spy (since that's what he was, not having any training but 'that his dad and mom had been spies' and 'that his friend had implanted some spy technology in his head' and 'that he knew a lot about computers.') Maybe that struggle is what people were watching for the first season-or-two, but--as he became more-and-more accepted by the 'cool' spies (even wooing-and-marrying the pretty one)--that struggle disappeared and -took with it the 'chutzpah' that originally led CHUCK's fan-base to watch. What do you think?

It is the type of show that it is hard to keep fresh. They couldn't just keep going with the on again of again attraction between Chuck and Walker. So once they put them together, that romantic tension was gone. In a way he did become too cool or rather fairly good at being an agent without the Intersec once it had been removed. At that point it was just two agents in love and the whole Buymore part of the show became even sillier and harder to stomach.

Pshh, yeah; what I'm lookin` for in my fictional television-adventure is some more "reality,' 'right?' But I think I see what you mean; there should've been 'a little competition' for Sarah (and not just those enemy spies that kidnapped her, the last one erasing her memory) ... Actually, that last guy COULD have introduced some 'competition,' erasing her memory and filling it in with the story that 'she was his own fiancee'---forcing Chuck to maybe give up on her for a season or two and then get her back in season 8 (kinda like Ross & Rachel of FRIENDS)

You do make a fair point about Chuck being too cool. I have read somewhere one of my friend's comment that she actually stopped watching Chuck because everyone became spies. As a loyal fan of the show, it's sad to hear such comments especially during those times when Chuck was on the bubble, not knowing whether they'd be getting another season or not. But since now that Chuck is really gone for good, maybe those changes could have done a little bit of damage in the show's reputation and uniqueness. Maybe the writers of the show didn't do their best in keeping the whole intersect thing fresh and interesting every episode. Still, I am happy to have watched every season again and still hope to watch them soon.

The problem with the geek turning into a hero is that after a while he stops being a geek at least on television shows. I don't know if that was the reason, that the show started to loose momentum, the fact that they could have changed the show into a Mr and Mrs Smith couple who use the Buymore for cover and that their friends try to cover for them when they are on missions so that no one can find out, is a near cliché series stereotype, but it works. The fact that they changed the show structure is not bad, what was a problem is the stories became more and more confusing and unrealistic in a way, the Shaw storyline worked well at first but then it seemed to get more and more confusing because of the intersect - first Chuck had it, then Shaw and so on. I am sorry to see it go though even though flawed it was fun to watch.

I remember when this series started and I really enjoyed it and we watched it every week. then the show was off the air for a while but when it came back we started to watch it again but my kids were getting older and started to watch other things so we didnt get to catch it as often and lost touch with the show. I would like to catch up on it but it seems I am going to have to find it available on dvd I guess at this point.

i love this series... I think it's OK for Chuck to be more mature in each season. i used to laugh a lot when i watch this series but now not so much... i think this series started as action comedy but today i feel that there's less comedy in it...
