I will be 40 in March and several months ago I went to the Dr and asked about having another child. First, let me say, I am not in a typical relationship and it was going to be more of a sperm donor type of arrangement. I know that I'm getting older and if I continue to wait, it may never happen. Well, I was able to get pregnant and I'm about 7 weeks now. I received a call yesterday from the Dr's office telling me they had called in a prescription for me. I go to pick it up and I'm told that you are not to take during pregnancy. I looked up information regarding the medicine. It is progesterone. Which based on what I've read they say the benefits out weight the risks. Risks are miscarriage and birth defects. Without taking it you still have the same risks. I went ahead a started taking it, but how do we know what is best??

I am pregnant too,and I already have 2 kids.If what the doctor prescribed you just take it,doctors knows better than us.We cant even know whats really happening to our baby until they go out. What we can do now is prevention and do anything what the doctor say to make our pregnancy safer. When we are pregnant we just pray and trust to the Lord, that He will keep our baby safe and healthy when they go out.

progesterone is not dangerous as it will help more to keep your baby, just avoid doing heavy activities nor take bed rest while taking the medicine to make sure you will not loss the baby, 40 is more prone of having miscarriage even without taking progesterone so they advised to have some bed rest. I also want to have another baby but i wish to have with the same father so my kids will still be related with both parents even hahaha sounds crazy but its really nice to have kids in the house they make your house alive even if its empty though of course as long as i can carry the burden of being a single mother to my kids specially with their finances which is not easy.. anyway goodluck and just think of a happy thought and you will make it

hi klw wow I really wonder at your doctor , did he tell you why he wanted you to takeit? I would get another opinion from a different doctor as that sounds a tad scary to me. at forty you are at risk for birth defects and miscarriage anyway so why make the odds worse if you do nogt have to check on the net with Mayo clinic as they are a trusted medical site. This is a serous issue and I sure would want to know more about why he thinks you should take progesterone.

Hi there klw5000.. Well, as far as i know, its totally not a good thing taking medications when you're pregnant... It's what always taught by our parents and even in schools.... But since you said it was prescribed by a doctor, maybe you should actually asked him why he prescribed you that medicine and not to take it for a while... I think it's better to be careful in taking things, especially in that age, most women get miscarriage at age 40... Anyways, Have a nice day!
