The word AWESOME is reserved only for God. What do you think?

Many use the word "awesome" for just about anything these days. Talk about, car, houses, rings, girlfriend's hair, or even noddle soup ---- and somebody will say " that's awesome."
Only God is awesome. Until we are stunned by the awesomeness of God, we will be too impressed by ourselves and lose the joy of the privilege of belonging to an awesome God.

Hi!clrumfelt,
Thank you.
Now, I can accept that view. Do you also feel uncomfortable when this is used almost to anything? Sometimes when I listen to the tone of how it is said it seems like it is like being used as a curse. I maybe wrong but I just feel uncomfortable.

The word I most revere toward God, besides his names from the Bible, is the word holy. It makes me uncomfortable when people use the word holy in an irreverent way. I guess it is a personal thing which "god-word" is closest to your heart.

Hello Sinagtala,
I understand your point, but I think the key to understand your point is the infiniteness, in Islam there are 99 Holy attributes of God mentioned in the Holy Qura'n, some people -mostly prophets- were described with one or more of theses attributes, but the difference here is the infiniteness of these attributes is exclusive to God alone, we can say that someone is awesome but God is the infinite awesomeness, we can describe a ruler as a Just ruler, but God is the infinite Justice, we can say that someone is powerful, but God is the infinite powerful, and hence there is no problem when we say that someone or something is awesome provided that we understand that Only God is the infinite awesomeness, I hope that you understand my point.

Until there is evidence of the "awesomeness of God", then I think that God is the least appropriate use of the word. I use the word to describe something that has inspired awe, or amazes me. I don't belong to a God, or anyone. I belong to myself.
