...hard time spending new and crisp bills

I don't if it's coincidence but lately, I have been acquiring some crisp and new versions of our money. I don't know why but I have a hard time spending them, especially if it's a new or unused bill. It sounds impractical becuase I have to choose another bill, just to make purchases or transactions. But I don't regret not spending them and sometimes, I store them away just to prevent myself from spending them. Why do you think that crisp or new bills are so hard to spend or sometimes, they even stored away. I have friends and family also doing this but we really don't know we do this.

Me too, guilty. Haha. Maybe it depends where I use it. If it's at a corner "sari-sari" store, I don't use crisp bills if I can help it. But if I'm at a mall or a nice restaurant and pay with cash, I don't hesitate pulling out the crisps bills; probably because I get crips bills (in change) back at a nice restaurant, most of time, maybe? You're right, I don't know why we do that either. I guess it shouldn't matter, money is money -- crips or crumply, as long as it's not held together by tape!

Ha ha ha. I do the same. I reserve the crisp bills for the important occasion and spending - giving it to the kids, or when I want to impress someone when I'm paying for a little leisure and the ratty ones goes to the sari-sari stores or when I pay some insufficient amount. Perhaps, we're still left to wonder why we do these things. But somehow, a new and crisp bill gives some sense of satisfaction. whatever it is , i am still wondering.

For me those crisp new notes are hard to use because they stick together quite hard and some accidentally give more wrong chance because they stick together. If i keep also will keep only 1 or 2 copy only , however , when the times comes will spent it also because money is money is to spent it and the whole places are using them and they are nothing special about these new crispy notes.

Good suggestion. I guess one or two good copies are enough and rest should be for spending. But it always brings a smile to my face when somebody gives me a new or crisp bill. I don't why but it reminds me of new money, new start and new everything. Perhaps hope or something that rejuvenates my financial future.

I totally know how you feel. I don't like spending new crisp bills. I am on a quest to obtain the P500 and P1000 new bill, well it was a game that my siblings and I thought that whoever wins, the loser gets to treat the winner. When I do shopping, I always check if the store accept debit cards as so I will not withdraw anything so that I will not be tempted to purchase anything with the new bill. I guess it has something to do with the saying "New is always better --- that is why don't spend it all." it has something to do like that. If I were you, I would rather start collecting old crisp bills :) which is what I am also doing. It is worth preserving and showing it to your grandchildren.

I was once changed by a tricycle driver a crisp new bill but I spent it at a nearby sari-sari store and then I got another only more crumpled and I spent it again. If I get only one or two of those I have no trouble spending and the other thing is the value has to be hundreds for me to keep them.

I understand how you feel, I was on the same boat before. However, lately I just spend them regardless if they're new or old, probably like you said it's quite a hassle sometimes when you need to choose an older bill to pay something. Nevertheless, I do have some exceptions like the special edition of some bills, for example the 100 peso bill with the logo of the University of the Philippines which was printed to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the university.

I guess I can have an exception for those special bills. But in consequence, I have to put them off my wallet because I might spend them when I'm really really desperate to pay something.

We are all the same here. Same goes to my mom. She doesn't want to spend it because it is new according to her. I only spend those new bills when it is not crispy. I receive 20 peso bill which are not already crisp. My mom is actually collecting the new Philippine bills.

hi jeanne! i know how you feel. whenever a new set of bills come out i always make sure to get a complete set and add it to my collection of paper money. i collect bills of foreign denominations as well but really concentrate in acquiring filipino bill denominations. i can say that aside from the old bills that i have, mostly 70s and 80s stuff, one of my prized possession in my collection is the Php2000 bill that was released to commemorate anniversary of the edsa revolution. the bill featured former president joseph ejercito estrada and was never released to the public. i got two of those and i think only 2000 pieces was printed by the bangko sentral ng pilipinas. another bill that i consider special are those 'arrovo' bills that circulated. basically, these are Php100 bills that misspelled the surname of former president and now pampanga congresswoman gloria macapagal arroyo. got a couple of those. anyway, since this is a new set of bills we are talking about. i got five pieces of each denomination in my collection. the rest that i get whether through banks or through other people i just spend as if these were the old paper bills. at the end of the day, the value of the new paper money is the same as that of the old one so spending these isn't really a concern for me. cheers!!!
