In contrast to it's aggressive posturing in recent times, be it trying to control South China Sea or staking strong claims to what it calls disputed territories, China now appear ready to mend fences with some of it's Asian rivals like India to counter American moves to contain it's rapid rise and prevent them from moving into opposition camp. China knows it can't afford to antagonize everyone esp. it's not-so-friendly neighbors if it wants to continue having booming economy when Western countries are facing economic recession. While experts opinions are divided, I feel Chinese moves amount only to a tactical shift in face of growing international pressures and not a real strategic shift of its vision/policies. Do share your views. Thanks :)

I dont think in this age and era imperialism works to anybody's benefit. China cant afford to destroy its markets. So tactical or not, we all have to find ways to remain peaceful. Pity middle east is burning - even without external efforts. Diaspora will move out as refugees elsewhere in this stage.

We do not live in Ideal world. Countries have double standards in their dealings based on their perceived interests. Big powers and growing economies fight for world resources, new markets, talent pool, prestige and so on. Defense spending has increased manifolds and stockpiles of nuclear weapons stark reality. Also every country has right to be on guard to protect their strategic interests.

Share prosperity and peaceful co-exist are not part of the communist party manifesto, the bandit mentality of communist propagandist will not tolerate civil liberty and freedom for all people across the region. Of course its recent frieldly posturing with India is just part of the tactical shift to counter U.S increasing attention in East Asia and shift in Pacific region policy lately, hoping to manipulate one of the biggest regional player to its side, nothing can be further from the truth that when the focus of U.S is shifted elsewhere in the world, then India will be set aside and remain as irrelevant to China once the perceived threat of U.S is diminished in the Far East.

Yes, I agree with you. There is no doubt dragon feels pressured right now and is making friendly noises just to buy time. Though I also feel India is big enough player and should not play sides and pursue our independent foreign policy in our own best interests. Yes we need to maintain good ties with China that benefits our economy and people but it must not be done blindly. One must exercise caution against untoward threats and remain vigilant so past mistakes are not repeated in future.

Yes, my friend, i agree with you! The fact that India is neighboring with China is good enough reason for both to maintain good ties with each other regardless of political differences. Once you can differentiate between politic and trade, and refuse to intermix both issues, then i am sure both nations' economy can benefit greatly from cross border trade/commerce cooperation. India had been taken care of its own interest first in the past, and it will continue to do so on its foreign policy with full diligent, i'm sure you can rest assure about it and don't need to worry uncessarily. A friendly relationship exist among India and China is critical for that region stability and joint prosperity goal. Cool!
