That's true, my friend.
A son, will be able to propagate the family name of the father, if he in turn will also have sons.
But having girls would not, because the girls adopt the family name of their husband. Thus , even if they bear children also, the family name of their father can not be propagated anymore.

Oh that's sad my friend.
Anyway, at least you have a child, just like me and my husband. Though she's a girl, we are so proud and thankful that we have at least one child .

I dont agree with this for myself, and I am sure that many others in USA dont. It doesnt make much sense to me because the girls are just as important to reproduction.
I think it is important for boys to be born of course. They are the ones that carry on the family name. I also think that its so unfair of them to show any type of the parents to show disappointment towards their daughter. Its so wrong. Each life is precious.

Me neither. I have two daughters. They are grown up now and I am happy.

Sure, I would be satisfied.
I never understood this sort of tradition. Isn't it the daughters that give birth to babies? Okay, so I can understand that the name wouldn't continue on, but so what? In this day and age that shouldn't be such a big issue anymore.

sacmom, I am of the same opinion regarding this. I have two daughters and I am sure that my generation will still continue. Thank for sharing, sacmom. Nice chatting with you.

I must be thankful to God I have kids. There are still others who have been married for many years but no kids. As you know a few tribes in Indonesia still consider that a son is number one. If you haven't got a son, you must keep on trying. What about you?

I don't care if I have all girls. I don't care about the gender, as long as my children are healthy and happy, I am satisfied.

Actually, me too. I have two daughters. I've been quite happy with only two children. Thank for sharing.

I don't believe that at all. I don't have any kids yet, but if I am lucky enough to have one, I hope for a girl. Don't get me wrong, I will be happy if I have a boy, but I definitely want to have a girl. I guess some people, and some cultures prefer boys, but I have always pictured myself being the mom to a girl, I feel like I would definitely have to learn a lot more to be a boy's mommy. I'd say the perfect family would include at least one girl and one boy, but if that is not what fate has in mind, I don't think it is necessary to carry on a generation. Any child is a blessing.
