I find it difficult to let my kids eat veggies. It's always an emotional drama. Also, my eldest daughter ages 10 don't like to eat fish *sigh! They want chicken and fried chicken only. I always warn them if they will not eat the veggies and fish I will not allow them to play the PSP and computer. Then they will eat some *sigh. I'm frustrated! Sometimes, I go with their flow. If they don't want, so be it! A friend of mine told me that as the kids grows they will fond of it just don't get tired to introduced it to them. Should I wait? Do you have problems too letting your kids eat some veggies?

I suggest your children eat fruit because that is a healthy choice. You could try making dishes which hide the vegetables. I suggest carrot sticks that are raw and crunchy these can be dipped for extra taste. I recommend vegetable soup with a couple of slices of bread. I think you should stop giving them chicken. Salad with a vinegary dressing can be delicious. Good luck. My two year old daughter loves to eat salad and she especially adores cucumber. My disabled son likes carrot sticks and watery soup without anything floating in it. We are a vegan family and very healthy.

Glad they love fruits. Banana is always present in the dining and I told my husband instead of choco snacks or the like he'll bring for the kids from work, he should buy fruits instead. They fond eating pears and apples too and more of grapes. Glad to meet a vegan person like you maximax! We tried to be one but we find it hard. We just eat with moderation... I normally buy packed and can soup in the supermarket for cooking. Hmmm, I'm interested with the vegetable soup you've told, I'll try it. Thanks max!

I think this is a very common problem among kids. I always suggest that kids should not be forced to like veggies. Rather, veggies should be introduced to them in a manner that they will like it. Cooked to the dish that they like, they will get accustomed to the idea that they are eating veggies. Eventually the kids will get to like veggies. ive them the best of veggies first.

I hated veggies as a kid too. I would eat some peas now and again, but didn't like the green leafy ones. We had a big garden where veggies grew, and one day I found that I didn't mind raw veggies I picked myself in the garden, and I did like eating nuts that have a fair amount of nutrition. Food was rarely fried at home, so I didn't have a chance to eat that anyway. As a grew older, I found that I could eat vegetables. I can't say that I love them, but can eat them. I eat a lot raw with cold meals, which apparently if far better than cooked veggies. Even though I didn't eat much veggies as a kid, my health has been quite good for most of my life. I think with some kids, it may be a bit of a power game, because as we grow up we like to make a lot more of our own decisions and discover things for outselves. _Derek

All small kids are the same everywhere, they just don`t want to eat veggies or whatever healthy food you want them to eat. They will eat junk food or anything else which suits them.My nieve was like this when she was young too.She hated veg food and never touched it however much her mother and my mom coaxed her.She just wanted potato fries, jelly, candies, chicken etc.Now as she has grown up she is completely a convert to vegetarian food and does not touch non-veg food.Being health concious she avoid all the junk she used to eat when young.Tastes change as kids grow up.So don`t worry too much, they too will change when grown up.My niece does not even touch eggs now.

When I was a kid, I didn't eat many type of veggies too, only the ones that I liked (carrots, tomatoes, lettuce..). Now, I like pretty much all vegetables, except one or two. But, this depend of person of course, because my friend have 18 years old and she don't eat any type of veggies. I think you still should make your kids eat vegetables, maybe you can try to make some different dishes that hide the vegetables, one day I was reading the book from Jerry's Seinfeld wife and she have great tips for cases like yours.

Hi there! sorry to hear that, it's a big issue for me when kids dont eat veggies, I dont want them too when i was still a kid, whenever my mama cooks veggies, all i eat is the soup and i dont eat the veggies, but she never got tired in convincing me to eat veggies, so i finally learned to eat veggies when i was in my first year high school, and now,I absolutely loooove veggies! Just dont get tired in convincing them, they'll eventually learn to eat veggies. and you also have to explain to them the advantages of eating veggies and the disadvantage of NOT eating veggies. especially when all they is meat, it may cause them different diseases.

I think they sound very normal to me, most kids don't like vegies, I think it is because their taste buds are developing and sweet things win every time, I think also there has to be a fair bit of putting nice flavours with the vegies to get them to like them.

Yes lilaclady, my kids like every other normal kids love sweets. Sometimes, I did some cheese and choco dippings they can't resist but the veggies were left waiting to be eaten :( Anyway, I look forward on the day that they will love it.

I think this is an age-old problem of parents. Most children do seem to have some sort of aversion to veggies. I'm not really sure what's an effective way to make our children eat them. I've tried a lot of ways that includes mild threats such as what you did by not letting them play their PSPs. But I think your friend's right. I mean, it could be just a stage for them and that eventually as they grow older, they'll start appreciating veggies. But if you want them to eat as early as now, well, maybe some tough love is needed. You could really force them to eat by not giving them options. It's either they eat the veggies or they get hungry.

I did that too beam. Ending point... they just ate the rice. Veggies were left *sigh! Sometimes, I forced them to eat those but when I see them not eaten well I have this guilty feeling. But well, it's just sometimes. Manytimes it's favorable with them. Quits *LOL!

It is only normal for kids to don't like eating vegetables much, I guess. I myself didn't like fish until I was 18 years old. I guess kids needs protein because they need it to grow. While vegetables are there to fight off certain health problems that may come as they grow older. I don't think that threatening them, to not be able to play with video games if they won't eat, is okay on a regular basis. Kids have the tendency to grow an immunity from that. The last time my father said that I can't use my computer or even play was when I was 14 years old and really not that hungry especially for vegetables with very strong taste which is what is on our table during that time. I told him off that it's okay (as long as I don't upset my tongue and stomach--I didn't say this to him...only that I won't force myself to eat something when I am already too full.) Why not lessen your salt and vinegar in your vegetables? And even try to mix tuna oil(century tuna) with your rice? As long as the food you take is not too strong for a kid's tongue, I guess you'll be alright. Ever since I told my mother that the food is too strong for me and that my siblings agreed to that as well, she herself cooks the food with lesser seasonings. And we'd rather have our food bland than killing our taste buds. We're okay with hot foods though, but not food made hot by red chili peppers... We always get complaints from others that our food is tasteless, especially when there's a gathering, but we don't care because it's only us eating those on a daily basis and not them. lol. Hope this helps a bit. Happy MyLotting!

A word from a young generation! Thanks Rose! I'm not used to seasoning. I used salt, fish sauce and a little bit of pepper in cooking. I cook food that I think is delicious to their taste, my husband is so demanding on the food I will cook in every dining we will have. So I tend to prepare for his delectable taste *sigh. It's just my kids that I think been a snobbish to all veggies and fish which I think is normal as I've read comments in here. Threatening them is not a way of life Rose *LOL. I do that once in a while because it works *LOL. Happy day!

I think it's natural for the kids to dislike fish and vegetables. You have to stand on your desicion if they don't eat the food that was given to them so be it, they will get starve after after hours of not eating something and basically they will eat those veggies and fish that you serve them ;) Just control your emotion not to give them anything that they wanted to eat like fried chicken and other stuff. Goodluck Lhenni and have faith :)

I did that chelley just once *sigh. I felt guilty when I saw them not eating well buy not giving what they want :( Now, I usually alert them that they won't touched their stuff if they won't eat those. I'm more comfortable in warning them than seeing them starving by not eating what I served *LOL. Thanks chelley!

Hi Lhenni, I used to eat veggies when I was a kid, it was my brothers who really don't eat veggies. They only wants chicken and all tasty foods. But now sometimes they try to eat veggies 'though they used to choose. They still don't eat all kinds of veggies. I think it's really the dull taste of it which they don't like. Your friend is right, you need to keep introducing to them those veggies.

I'll wait for their time to love veggies En but yes, I will not stop offering them variety. When I'm a kid, I used to eat vegetables. Maybe because, I'm around with vegetable-eater. My lola is Ilocana and she always cook leafy ones. I remember, she use malunggay, amplaya and kamote leaves in her monggo which I love. Whenever I go to their place in Makati, I crave for her monggo. And whenever she knew I'll visit my mother which is just 2 doors away from her, she cook monggo for me *sigh!

Hi lhen I used to have the same problem before. My daughter really hates vegetables. But since she is "kikay" i used that to let her eat vegetables and love eating them as well. Whenever there's veggies in our food i will tell her: Oh,eat carrots baby, that will make your skin look lovelier and soft. This squash will make your eye shine and sparkle with beauty. This one is for your teeth,it will take away the broken ones and replace it with new and whiter ones. Oh,this will make your hair grow longer and shinier... lolzzz...That has been my dialogue when veggies are in our table to eat. Now here is her dialogue after weeks of doing so... Ma,what will carrots does to my skin again?is my skin lovelier now? Oh ma,i can see you clearly,my eyes are clearer now, maybe because i ate a lot of squash today.. ...try that also...now she eats almost all of the veggies knowing she will look more pretty eat all of those.. :-D

I'll do that too Tam! Nice one! I remember my husband said to Andrei (our son) that if he will eat veggies he will grow likely like him (my hubby). Strong and real good in driving. Boys talk. Andrei looks up high to my husband. He really fond on toy cars and vocal that he will soon a very good driver. And whenever we asked him what he wanna be when he grows up, he will tell us a good driver *sigh. But I manipulate his thinking now at an early. I want him to be a pilot *LOL. Now, he will tell us, he wants to be a pilot... and also a good driver *LOL But for our daughter, I'll follow yours *LOL

I used to have a hard time as well but i noticed that everytime i force them to eating veggies, they turn away more. So i got sneaky and get them to eat. First, i make it colorful.. and artistic. it works for my daughter who is soooo picky among the three. I could barely even let her eat even one leaf of a malunggay! lol So what i usually do is make her favorite porkchop or fried chicken..and make a side dish of a veggie so she will eat it with the porkchop. The side dish usually includes, carrots, baguio beans, potatoes, bell pepper, onions, garlic, whole kernel corn and mushroom. I sautee it with a bit of salt and peper..and that's it she loves that. I was amazed when she ate it, i chopped it to small cubes so she can just eat it.. and she said it tastes sweet which she likes it because of the corn..which makes it sweet. So she eats that now..that is mostly the veggie she eats and i am not complaining lol atleast she is eating. i do not have problems with my boys since they are not picky ones..they eat whatever is on their plate...my dad taught them that way but my daughter is the harder one. So i did that sauteed veggie thing...and glad she love it. Try it..you can sautee it in butter for better flavor, it really does well with a bit of meat too..like sautee the meat with it. Sometimes i also make onion rings which they always taught it is calamares hahaha but they eat it while watching tv..and i also make potato chips out of real potatoes. there are endless way... plus make it creative, sometimes i make smiley faces out of the veggies...they love it..or make different shapes and sizes sometimes i also incorporate the veggies in fried rice..the veggies are small they barely notice it.

She is indeed picky! lol As for fish my daughter actually love fish rather than since i guess she finds it easier to chew. Well, how about fillet the fish, coat it with coat and fry..i use that lol..and fry it and make it look like meat... hope she would eventually like it. As for the veggie..have you tried barbecued tofu? i used to marinade tofu in barbecue sauce ( ready made ones..) overnight or more..so it will really sip and i barbecue it. you can steam it first or boil it first but i use steaming though.. i hope you'll eventually get your daughter to eat veggie.

Tough job jazel, knowing that you're a working mom and you still manage to deal what your kids want. I do cooked that side dish veggies of yours, sometimes I just bought a packed one in the groceries but still, my daughter didn't eat it. Hubby and me always finished it all *LOL. She would eat some when I get "kinda" mad at her but that's just an act :p I want her also to love and eat fish but she really declined to do so. I did try fish shanghai with mixed ground beef too. But she noticed the taste of the "bangus" (milkfish). There's one fish she likes when we dine out and it's the dory fish fillet which is a hard find here in our place even in the supermarket. I'll just wait her time to love those healthy nutrition foods we loved. Hello jazel! Have fun MyLotting!

This has been an ongoing struggle with my son since he was a baby, he is now ten. The only things he likes to eat are chicken strips, mac and cheese, and pizza so, I had to find clever ways to hide the veggies. I use my food processor and I grind up broccoli, carrots or whatever vegetable I want and I hide it in the pizza sauce, or in the mac and cheese. I've even used dehydrated vegetables ground up along with bread crumbs as a breading for chicken! LOL Just think about what they like to eat and come up with a clever way to incorporate it. :)

I am sneaky. I get spinach mixed in my ravioli, or lasagna. I puree veggies and add it into my pasta sauce. My daughter actually like the V8 splash that is a mix if vegetable and fruit juice.

Carrots and green beans and peas work the best. I tried corn one time, and it did not puree well. I make a big batch that is heavy on carrots to keep the coloring similar and then freeze it in ice cube trays. When I am making pasta, I take out a few cubes and melt it into premade sauce. If I am making the sauce from scratch, I steam about a half cup of mixed carrots and peas, then puree it with the tomatoes.

Hello friend, even I was a person who was tired of all these veggies and meat when I was young. My mom had to force me to eat all these and I would resist these. The more she forced, the more I started to hate these food. But then, as I grew up, I started getting fond of these food and today, I just can't live without fish. Fishes are so yum and I need them atleast once in two days. I guess you shouldn't push your kids too much. Just wait for sometime, they themselves will start hunting.:)
