Possible reasons for a person who has to go to toilet to pee every now and then.

I have something to ask you guys and i would appreciate if someone from medical domain come up with a remedy. There is a very close friend of mine who is suffering by a very weird kind of problem. He has to go to pee at a very high frequency. I mean he has to go to the toilet oncce in an hour. He says that he cannot control it for more than 30 mins more. He doubted that he has sugar or he is diabetic and sought a physician for help but the doctor said that he is not diabetic after observing his urine test reports. He then suggested him to lessen the water intake (as my frnd told the doctor that he drinks a lot of water in a day-around 17-20 glasses a day). Can anyone help him out here? I will be so thankful to you.:(

Your friend is drinking quite a lot of water - perhaps 4 or 5 litres, depending on the size of a 'glass'. He will certainly find that he needs to pee often. Two or three litres is quite sufficient for most people. Urinary tract infections are commoner than many people realise. Perhaps he is suffering from one of these, in which case, while drinking plenty of water is a good thing, a course of antibiotics may help. One of the symptoms of diabetes is the need to pee frequently but you say that this has been checked and can be ruled out. Another factor is age. As we get older, the sphincter muscles get weaker and we find it less easy to cope with a full bladder. Depending on your friend's age, I would certainly advise that he drinks rather less water than at present. He should also avoid drinking anything for a couple of hours before bed.

owlwings as a long standing diabetic the doc tor who did a urine test for diabetes must be back in the dark ages. now in modern 2012 you test for possible diabetes via a blood test as urine tests are a thing of the past as too many were told they did not have diabetes who did have it, the blood is the best place to check as if the sugar finally does show up in the urine that person is probabley on the way to St Peters gate. he needs to find a modern doctor who is a diabetes specialist and have the blood test done just to be sure. urine tests were ruoed out years a back as not showing but just a few diabetics. must be done by blood tests.

ah finally to be sure he does not have diabetes he must see an endocrinologist specializing in diabetes for the defining blood test to know for sure, this is the only modern way to check of possible diabetes. I know as I have had it for 50 years now.

Did the doctor not recommend for further tests such as ultrasound on his lower parts, such as the stomach, kidney and prostate? He should try to ask the doctor about that, because he might have an enlargement of the prostate. It causes a man to always have the urge to urinate too, since being a diabetic is already ruled out. It afflicts men usually of 40 years old and above age.

also since the doctor who ruled out diabetes just did a urine test which is no longer a valid way to rule out diabetes he needs to see an endocrineologist who specializes in testing blood tests for diabetes. thats the only sure way to rule out diabetes it must be through a blood test. urine tests are no longer valid.I am an old diabetic from a way back so I know as thats how I found out.

hmmm.. sounds like your friend has "urinary incontinence". taking into consideration he cannot control his pee for more than 30mins and that he isn't diabetic. i'm not sure about the amount of water he takes in, but just how big are his glasses anyway?

Some of the things that I would suggest have already been mentioned in the other responses like another test of diabetes. I would recommend that. It is also possible that he has an enlarged prostate which someone also mentioned. You didn't write how old he is. If he is young that is probably not the reason why he experiences those problems, but if he is not young anymore it is possility that his doctor ought to consider. Another possibility that I would like to mention is an illness called interstitiel cystitis. It is more common among women, but some men also suffer from this condition. One of the main symptons is frequent urination. Many patients also experience pain in the area around the bladder, but if it a mild case of the interstitiel cystitis frequent urination might be the only sympton.

hez 22 yrs of age.And he told me that today he had to go to pee only 4 or 5 times till now. It is worthy enough to mention here that he drunk 5 glasses of water today(by now). And i guess its an indication that he has no serious medical issue.:)

The main reason why he usually went to the toilet it's because he do have too many water intake. I can probably relate to your friends condition. Because I usually pee every 30 minutes- 1 hour. I think there is no harm in what your friend's habit. Not unless that it can interfere into his life.

that's normal because he drinks 17 to 20 glasses a day! unless he has an endocrine problem. may be he needs anti-diuretic hormone. there is a certain disease that makes you pee all the time, you need to go to the lab and have your blood checked out but if the doctor insists it's about the large amount of water intake then that is probably it

hi sarabhregin oh my god if he drinks that much no wonder, 8 to 10 glasses is all my doctor recommend bu t also go find anot her doctor to do a blood sugar test as urine tests are passe now yuo need to have some blood tests run as anyone who drinks that much water will not have pee showing an y leftover sugar. to rule out diabetes he must have a glucose test done on his blood not his urine. for a diabeti its okay to drink more water provided he can stand running to the bathroom that much but common sense and 8 to 10 wou ld stop all that silly peeing. but tell him to see a doctor who specializes in diabetes for the correct tests that will rule out diabetes by a blood test, urine testing for diabetres is too old and not a good test any more. must be a blood test to rule out diabetes.
