In our school every semester, we have to evaluate the teachers. When I was first year and second year, we evaluate them through paper only but now it is done online. I just couldn't see any relevance of evaluating them because eventhough their evaluation is low, they are still in the school teaching though there is one teacher who were really kicked out because of her poor evaluation result. But how about the others? Something fishy. Sad to say, I am not really satisfied with this student's evaluation of teachers. But I have to do it to comply as one of the requirements for every semester.

Before we evaluate teacher using paper and pen. Now the school have switched to electronic evaluation. We can evaluate the teacher through the internet. Everything is high tech nowadays. Actually we evaluate them by rating from 1 to 5. We gave the points to improve which we have observed during classes an other stuffs.

I love teacher evaluation, Thats were I get some revenge to some terror teachers. cos the letters are anonymous, I tried to insult some teacher with a passion and I tried changing my penmanship. I remember the time I said all the insults to my hated Filipino language teacher. I hate that vile teacher and my critics of him ere all negative.

You remind me of my classmates. They whine during the course of the semester but they know to get even come the evaluation time. The process doesn't involved personal names but yes, some students can be recognizable by their penmanship. I'm glad that I usually have different style when the mood takes me.

Hello CaptAlbertWhisker! You really take this teacher's evaluation thingy as your chance to take revenge from those terror teachers huh. I guess everyone does especially when we meet teachers who makes our day worse during our student life. And yes, we will not be recognized because we do not write our name to it.
Hello jeanneyvonne! Have you noticed CaptAlbertWhisker seems like very angry with that Filipino language teacher of his? Anyway, our evaluation for the teachers are very much anticipated every semester. The evaluation is kept confidential.

I'm not sure that I agree everything should be based on a student evaluating a teacher but I can see how this might help if they are having issues out of one in particular. I think that the school administrators understand that there are going to be students that don't take it seriously or that just want to be mean about a certain teacher. BUT there also might be students that really want to learn and the teacher is not giving them what they deserve.
I guess my response is related to this one instructor that I have now. I was very excited about the subject and she has not made things easy as far as personal interaction goes. Long story, but the point is that I can tell an adviser but other than that..I have nothing but an evaluation to lean on. If I am not the only student, maybe they will look in to her actions and make the class more pleasant for an up and coming student. I hate the thought if the evaluations being abused..that is what will make them useless but I like the fact that my concerns might get attention if I need them too.

Student's evaluation for teachers are helpful on the other side to me if in case I meet teachers who lacks teaching capability or when he or she has an attitude. Just like this semester, I have one teacher whom I can't relate to his teaching methodology and I believe my classmates too feel the same. The evaluation is the only chance we can lean on just like you.

We also evaluate our professors every semester and yup its really required otherwise you'll have problems in enrolling for the next semester. I think the evaluation is for the professors to ponder on and its their choice whether to follow the advice of students.

One of the dean in our school who is a dean in the college of Information Technology once said that we will not be enrolled unless we don't take the teacher's evaluation. I thought it is just okay not to evaluate them but here it is. The student's evaluation for teachers are just small but a big help for them to improve or if the student's are satisfied.

At the college I went to we did that at the end of every semester the reason for that is so that the teacher learns how to be a better teacher as well as the fact for head to see what teachers they might need to firer if they keep having the same issues with the students. My first year i had a math teacher couldn't teach math to students that are trying o be teachers. Pretty much everyone failed the class first half of the year and the second half of the year.

Good thing you can relate to my discussion and thank you for giving me your experience about it. Your statements are true stating that these evaluation thingy conducted is in order for the teachers to know which part of their teaching methodology needs to be improved or enhanced. I also have an experience same like yours when it is because of a teacher that nearly made most of my classmates including myself to fail.

Well she had a second change in the second half of the year to do better and she didn't. I'm glad that are head of the college looked at them before he sent them out to the teachers. Because not only did my class but her other class all gave her a F. She was fired and sent to another college down the road.

We also have that kind,we evaluate our teachers on how are their performance in school. It is useful for the school to know who's teacher are not performing well.also encourage the teacher to work well, they will see there performance if the students are happy with their teaching. Its up to them to change or they will stick to the same method and always the same.

Through this evaluation form, the teachers will know how is their teaching going. But you know what, I am getting tired of it. It it is because since first year I always have to evaluate teachers. Though I know it will help a lot and be sure to contribute to the school.

There have been times where teacher evaluation was done in the past for me, but really most of the time, it really doesn't do much good. There are just a lot of times where they are going to try and rather attempt to let students think that they have a voice, but really they are just about as voiceless as ever before. There are just times where it is just a front.
The only way bad teachers leave as if they rub the administration a wrong way. Some of them are rather protected for any number of shady, political reasons. Sadly as bad as some teachers are, there are many instances where they are the best people for the job. And I shudder to think about that. Some schools don't have quality educators lining up and that is really a sad statement for the future.

You have stated so many realizations when it comes to teacher's evaluation. I guess you know how I feel right now about it. Yet, student's voiceless voice would still prevail even if it already have knocked out teachers because of it. Now the choice is handed over to the administration on what to do about the matter. It is for them to decide if they hear the student's voiceless voice or continue to protect teachers.

As a college student I have to evaluate our teachers every semester every year as you said. As far as my thought I will just take it seriously when it comes to the teachers I like, that is to say in my deep heart I want to show my appreciation to them through this platform. But on the whole I do not like to use a few starched questions to evaluate our teachers and I also feel it is nonsense in large to both teachers or students.

Thank you xiaohunmeihua for taking your time to reply in my discussion. Like you, I also evaluate seriously those who are true to their profession. But not all of them are true. I just think that they have problems with their way of teaching though we students too have problems.

Hi cearn25!
I am currently studying teaching, so i understand a bit what its importance, yes you are right teachers cannot be kicked out that easy because they are all certified teachers ( licensed) so the presumption is they are qualified, however there is possibility if his/her performance would not change or if he/she failed to meet the standard set forth by the government in educ.system...( there is due process)
Such evaluation is made to find out their effectiveness when it comes to teaching..
because it is important to maintain the standard of educational system, that is why teacher has continuous trainings, seminars, conferences, these are measures for them to always meet the standard.
If we think of it, we ( the students ) will be also benefited of such evaluation because teachers has a big role in our learning..

It is good to hear the side of a teacher-to-be. Well, of course the evaluation of the teachers by the students are just a small percent for them to determine their fate in teaching, still it gives a big impact to the teacher so that they will know where they are already.

I agree either. While teachers evaluation may have some relevant purpose, I dont think that students evaluating them is reliable, you might say, of course the students are the ones who could evaluate their performance, because they are the ones being taught, but the question is what is the authority or the bases of these students to evaluate when they actually don't know how a good teaching is? Some even rate their professors very high, because he or she is very approachable and friendly but doesnt teach well or who doesnt really know how to teach. Students may also, on the other hand rate a teacher very low just because he or she is so strict where in fact he is a good teacher. Oh, well, Teacher's evaluation, for me is not hundred percent reliable i dont think its even 50% reliable.

That is true. Some students don't really put into the heart in evaluating. Some of them are just playing. They don't get serious when it comes to it. Other teachers whom I know were not afraid of getting poor evaluation because the school will not kick them out and the school needs them.
