"Nominal" Roman Catholic, I am.

My Religion - Does religion matter? I do believe it's not our religion that saves us, it's our faith in HIM.

I was born as a Roman Catholic, and I grew up with the traditions and beliefs of the Roman Catholics, but when i grew older, I got so confused with my religion, so, i dont attend mass regularly, I don't make the sign of the cross, I'm quite not sure if i should still believe in saints (since catholics have a lot of saints). But i absolutely and certainly believe in God and Jesus Christ, does religion matter? am i committing a sin, for not practicing the practices of my religion?

Hi Shimi.. I have a lot to comment on but i dont want to be thrashed on in here by people who aren't catholics. All i could say is... since you are baptized catholic, you will die catholic. Yup, you are right. you are sinning. I am not judging you ok.. since you asked, i answered.

In actual fact few Roman Churches baptise. Baptise means to immerse and this is how it was practised by the early Church, the Orthodox Church and Baptists amongst others. So unless you have been immersed no need to worry about "...since you are baptized catholic, you will die catholic" Even if you have been properly baptised, where is it written that once baptised in the Roman Church you will die a member of that Church? Or is this another invention of that Church? all the best urban

I think that is up to you .Do you consider yourself to commit a sin for not following the Roman Catholic church teachings ? Are the teachings wrong or too hard to follow ? What does "believe in saints" means ? It means to know there were people in this world who are considered examples and they must be venerated ? Or to worship them like you worship Jesus or the Father ? I think religion matters but that is my opinion.Anyway i am a bad christian too so i can`t teach you what is right or wrong.

I may be wrong but it sounds like it is the Roman Church with which you are disillusioned. I would suggest you read the gospels and ask yourself if the Roman Churches doctrine fits with the teachings of Christ? Perhaps, try attending services of other denominations all the best urban

I was where you are right now. confused about my feelings about religion. I suggest you look for yourself and do the research. Lear to listen to all sides and decide for yourself what you wanted to believe. I for one don't believe in a god that punishes people who simply don't believe or are ignorant of his presence regardless of how good a person they might be. It just doesn't make sense. Best of luck!

Are you still confused my friend? I am also a catholic, i also go to church most sundays. I still believe in saints, I still make the sign of the cross, but i don't pray the rosary LOL. Anyways, for me, religion does not matter, as long as you believe in God, have faith in Him, you pray to Him, Ask forgiveness, ask help, talk to him as if he is your friend, accepted him as you God and savior, Follow his commandments, i think you're doing great as a christian. As for me, I take sundays to offer my 1 hour time to God, i know i can pray anywhere but the church is also His home. I know a lot of people who only go to church to be with or meet with their girl/boyfriend. And there are people who don't take the mass seriously, they think that after going to church they'll say i've done my part. And go back to their wasted life. I don't about them, but when i go to church, i make sure that i concentrate and really do pray. God knows what you are thinking before you say it. So don't doubt your faith.

I've been there. lately i have been wanting to read the bible. the feast of nazareno made me realize how Filipinos adore the image of Jesus and NOT Jesus Christ our saviour himself. In calasiao, i pray in senor tesoro, but I don't kiss the image any more. For me God is everywhere, so we don't need to kiss and adore images (remember the golden calf? in the bible) but let us just adore purely God and JEsus where ever we are. Sometimes I still do make the sign of the cross as a respect. Right now, there is this religion which is popular in our country that don't believe in Jesus as God, but just a prophet. so they made me confused. but i'm thinking, Jesus is a part of God. God said he was our saviour, but God said that do not have other Gods before him (God). Jesus said he is the son. So I guess God is the King and Jesus is our prince. Jesus came from God. he is a part of God. Confusing right? because we were taught that jesus and God are one.
