It is reported that some large information technology services companies is to ban staff from sending each other emails, saying they waste time and are outdated. Do you also believe so?

Hello, its depends on the purpose of emails. If some one spend time during working hours in sending personal emails than it wastge of time from the view point of company. I this email is not an outdated in our country, where internet facility available only to 10% population.

The report specified wastage and outdatedness as the the reason? Well, I guess it really depends on what the email is used for. Connecting with friends using email may be a bit passe but email is still an indispensable tool in business. It is still actually the mode of correspondence that's widely used. And it's still where most offices send attached documents through.

I think that is a false statement! E-mail is not outdated and is widely used, yet! It is also not a waste of time! If I din't use my e-mail I would not see my Mylot updates and Mylot members disccussions and respones to my discsusions! I rather send e-mail then use the phone! So I see E-mail is a must needed thing! I'd be lost with out it!

What? If anything is 'out dated' it's probably got to be snail mail - I prefer email to snail mail. I send emails every day to friends who work in offices, and I check my email directly from my Blackberry. It's handy!

Why outdated? It's still used massively everywhere in all sort of business and for personal uses too and it still has a long live before getting replaced by something else. But sure, I understand the point of "waste of time" in some aspect. In some companies I know, employees are just sending mails to each other, much like in a social network, between them or with even outsiders, and that's just not productive. The real issue is that, at the same time, the mail is an useful tool for every business, so how do they plan to survive without corporate mails? Also, internal mails for work purposes is common, and ITs can't easily filter out the real, legitimate work need from the chat.

I need to keep my email. I love it. I depend on it so much, I don't know what I could do without it. I don't feel like it is out of date, but that may be because I am not as technical as many others. I hope no one decides to do away with it.

Stating email as outdated is pretty baseless. We still require to send and receive messages in companies, mostly the one that got branches all over the world or within the country alone. The one that's pretty outdated is snail mail though it will never completely be gone as we still a method to send parcels. There's no way those be send electronically.

I don't personally think that email is a waste of time at all. In fact, I think that it is quite the opposite. I think that email has become something in the world that is a great time saver. With email, you are able to send messages to people and they are able to quickly respond to them, whereas before email was available, it would take days or weeks to get a response.

Hi there, I dont believed that emails are waste of time. Hence, this is another way for me to earn cash. And I really find it useful here on my part. As everytime I sent an email, an amount is being credited to my account.

I partly can agree with it. Many people are only busy with reading and answering their email whole day on. So hardly time to work since each time the beep comes in they feel the need to read and answer it at once. But I do think that email is the best way to inform people, it's way better as all these notes.

If that is the case then they don't need to. Depends on what the email is about. Why would it be outdated? Technology isn't that fast!

So is the staff supposed to text each other now? OR... maybe... maybe... they will actually be forced to talk to each other face-to-face!!!
