My 9 year old son told me the other day that he does not know why he is important. I explained to him that he is important to me because without his smile and questions and discussions I would be lost, and that he helps me which is important and he is my world. He then sat and thought about it and said well how can I be important at school. I gave him ideas of things he could do to make a difference and told him even the smallest thing can change someone's day to better and that is important. He then asked me then if he asked someone to play with him that doesn't have any friends would that help? I told him it probably would make that persons day better, so he said that's what he would do. How would you explain a childs importance to them?

I would have to explain it as we need it in our lives and if me and her daddy didn't have her we wouldn't have been complete. Denis important to our heart she makes us better person and parent. That each person in this would plays many important parts not only to there parents but friends, teachers, classmates, strangers other family members. Each life in te world can change things and you life was important enough to not only tough me but others and as you grow up you will see what people you have been important to.

That pretty much was how I wanted to explain it to my son and did. He is very precious and wants to help everyone at school and feel important at school too, but has social issues at school because he is very shy.

Kids are so innocent and such question is so innocent then. I tell my kids when they ask me one time esp my daughter (she's kind of talkative when she's small) She asked me why she is important. i told her, she made my life complete :)

They are very innocent I agree and my son knows he completes me as well. He just wants to know how to be important at school though!

What a lovely little boy you have there, and it is good that you sat him down and spoke to him with such honesty and didn't speak to him with baby language like a lot of people would have...

He is a wonderful child, and is very considerate of other people. I try to provide as much honesty to him as possible, enough people in the world will eventually lie to him I don't need to be added to that list!

Hello.. Your kid really seems to be brilliant and inquisitive and human (dont take this wrong, I could not find another word). He seems kind to me.. He is talented, I am sure, as he appears to ask things which a child would not even think of. He is bold too, as he dared to ask it and he is kind because he intends to help another fellow of his age... I would kiss such a child and treasure him.. Take care...
