How can I charge my IPOD shuffle?

I recently received my ipod shuffle. How can I charge it. I know I can use my laptop. Yes, I did. Upon charging there should be an orange light right? In my case, there isn't any lights on. Should I charge it on or off? How will I know if it's fully charged? I can't even see its presence on my computer. I'm going crazy over it. I don't know how to use this ipod shuffle. Really, I don't know. I read a lot of guidelines about it and followed but still I can't use it. Please help me if you know some guidelines in using IPOD shuffle.
