Who Will Win the Africa Cup of Nations?

All the teams in the on-going Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon have now played two matches apiece. The following teams cannot make it to the quarter final stages having lost two matches each: Senegal, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Niger. The following teams have qualified for the quarter final stage: the co-hosts (Equatorial Guinea and Gabon), Tunisia, and Cote d'Ivoire. Group D is the most difficult to predict, only Botswana is out of contention for qualification to the quarter final stage. Although Ghana has the maximum six points from two matches, if they lose their last match against Guinea (who need to win to assure their progression) and Mali beat Botswana as it is expected, then Ghana may not progress to the next round. So far, and by my own assessment, the best teams who seem show signs of hunger for the trophy (and seem to possess the fire power to win) are: Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, Zambia, and Guinea. What do you think? Which team do you think will likely win the trophy at stake?

Cote d'Ivoire has got the most well-known players and they are the popular favorite to win the cup. But I will go with Ghana. Just a feel.

Senegal has (or should I say "had"!) good players who are (or were!) in form. The sad news is that the team was bundled out of the competition without winning even a single match out of three! Ghana team has been lucky so far. Hope that luck will continue against Guinea.

Good teams don't always win. Bad teams lose all the time. Only the lucky team can certainly win. I guess being good can make a team's luck better.

What makes a team "more ready" is subject to different interpretation. If we are to judge each team on the basis of the matches played so far, skills displayed, technical ability, tenacity and motivation; Gabon is the team to beat. However, on paper, hoping that Cote d'Ivoire won't make the mistake that Senegal made, the Ivoriens remain the favourite to win the coveted trophy.

I think Ivory Coast or Cote D'Ivorie are the odds on favorites for African Cup of Nations. They have started well winning both their matches. But African Cup of Nations is usually full of surprises. So it would be interesting to see if Ivory Coast finally go on to win a title. Cheers! Ram

You may be right because Cote d'Ivoire has the best players playing top flight football in Europe. The team started well doing just enough to win the opening two games.
