new job

my husband switched jobs at the beginning of the month. we knew that it was a good thing for our family as this new job has a higher wage and a guaranteed 40 hours weekly. he got his first paycheck yesterday. it was a great feeling to know that this is what we can count on two to three times a month. we were able to get some of the bills paid up and still have room to breathe. i'm so on top of the world. it's been two years since we last saw a good check like this. by the time march gets here, we'll be able to start saving money each month and that's going to be so great. my ultimate goal, in spite of recent events, i want to go on a cruise after my son graduates next year.

this is a permanent position with a company that has a contracct with the government. unless they start shutting down prisons, he can be there for a long time. what's really good, they're counting his time in the military towards his retirement. that's really good. he won't have to work as long.

that's a coincidence, the pastor had a sermon on that very point. always be thankful for what God has provided for you. God always provides for your NEEDS, not your WANTS.

If he's getting paid daily, then I'd consider that a great job. I'm being paid per hour and one grave mistake you commit on your time punches and you'll have a couple of bucks deducted from your salary. I'd choose a job where I'm being paid daily anytime over this.

he gets paid by the hour, he's guaranteed 40 hours a week, gets paid every two weeks. the job he had before, he was paid by the hour, but no guarantee of 40 hours, was paid twice a month. this was a better move for the family. the really cool part, his old job, he had to drive almost 30 miles to work. this job, only 3 miles. tons of mileage saved and gas too!

Oh, well it sounds like it's still a benefit for your family with him having that job.

I remember that feeling back in August when I got a full time teaching job. The paycheck was not tremendously more (a hundred or two) but I had added benefits like vision, dental, and payment into a retirement fund. I also get paid year round, so eventhough I will not be working over the summer I will still get the same paycheck. That was always where my hubby and I got in trouble because we were living pay check to pay check during the school year while I was subbing, and then when I was not working in the summer we had to raid our not very big savings. We even had to dip into our daughters account.

congratulations on your position. i used to be a substitute teacher for a special needs school in ar. i wasn't able to maintain that here in tx. my sister just received her associates degree in teaching, working on her bachelors degree. thank you for teaching the next generation.

yes it was a struggle for him going from a low paying job with just a few hours to this higher paying job with steady hours. we never gave up. we knew if we did the time, it would start to pay off.
it's my daughter that graduates high school this may. my son graduates from high school next year in may.

That was great. There are times when things really work our way, we really feel blessed and happy.
I once have to made a big decision as well. It was dated back in 2008. I have to move away from my home and family, 600 km away, for a new job. At first, it only was though but now I'm glad I made the decision. This year we even manage to buy a house which expected to be completed next year.
I wish you enjoy on your cruise next year.

Great to hear that there are also people who have such a positive development after hard years and with this economy.
It's also great to hear you will be able to breath again, pay of bills and save.
I hope you will be able to make that cruise!
