Barcelona again slipped in the La Liga as they failed to score for the first time in 23 games to be held to a 0-0 draw at Villareal. Real Madrid capitalized on Barca's slip up by winning 3-1 against Zaragoza. These results mean that Real Madrid lead Barcelona by 7 points in the La Liga title chase. I think this is a bit too much even for Barcelona to overcome for the La Liga title. So the title is now Real's to lose.
What are your views on this?
Cheers!

I have seen both games and many other games also this year and I have to say that it seems like things to be set up in the background so that Real can win the title. Too many referee mistakes against Barcelona and too many for Real Madrid. This cannot be a coincidence. And the other thing is that Barcelona is more hated among Spain, because they are proud of their Catalan nationality and the Spanish people don't like people who live incorporated in Spain and consider themselves from other nationality. The same is true about Bilbao as well. So teams play more harder against Barcelona just to upset them and don't force themselves too hard when playing with Real. But what I can say for sure is that Real has a better offensive power than Barcelona and a weaker defense. So maybe a team who can defend better against Real and take advantage of their huge gaps in the defense will be able to upset them. But as far as Real players can make handballs on the goal line to keep the lead or correct goals from the opponents are disallowed and the complete opposite happens with Barcelona, it will be very hard.

It is not easy to manipulate games by getting referees to go against Barcelona and for Real Madrid. The risk of exposure would be too big with so many people involved who are supposed to be neutral and enforcing the rules. So I think the conspiracy theory is very unlikely. But the often-erred referring performance is something that can kill football. Something must be done to "help" those poor human beings making the right decisions. Those FIFA top dogs who are always in conspiracies should do their job to assist the referees instead of just "helping" the delegates to make up their mind.

At a quick look, some might say that 7 points is not that much, considering there are still 18 matches to be played in La Liga. What concerns me, as a Barcelona fan, is that Real Madrid is not only 7 points ahead, but also playing very good football. That make it very unlikely for them to loose that many points, even if we win the direct match.

I agree. There is an obvious gap between Real and Barcelona, on one hand, and the rest of the Spanish teams, on the other hand. The other teams are no match for the two at the top. They might manage to get a few draws, by defending with the entire team, but that's all. Even admitting Barcelona will win in the direct confrontation with Real Madrid, the 4 points left between them are a pretty nice distance for Real.

Also given the level of competition in the La Liga, expecting Real to lose three times in 18 matches looks like an unlikely possibility. Also given the current run of Barca where they have dropped points in the league, expecting them to win all the 18 remaining matches also looks a tough ask.
Cheers!

Anything could be happen in the future, as i'm always saying it.
But this time, i DO HOPE that Madrid wins the La Liga title this season :D
Like Paul Scholes said in one of the news: Barca plays started to be a boring one.
Indeed i agreed with him. Too many winnings sometimes can be boring and irritating. Especially if those who did that is not your favourite clubs :D

Yes, i think it's hard for barca to win La Liga this year. But they still have Del Rey and Champion. I hope it won't be reverse of last year achievement, where barca only win Del Rey and Madrid won La Liga and Champion.

I feel Barcelona can lift the trophies of both la liga and copa del rey. With eighteen league games left to play, there is a great possibility that Real Madrid will slip sometimes. How many times have Real Madrid had to come from behind to win games this season? Let us know that this do not always happen in soccer. The best bet, I think, is for us to keep our fingers crossed. May the best team in la liga win!

But the fact, Real have come back to win. They have been ruthless against weaker opposition and their only recent slip ups have been mainly against Barcelona. Of course there is still on El-Classico left in this campaign, but a 3 game margin might just be too much to cover.
Cheers!

I agree with you that the La Liga is Real Madrid's to lose now. I really can not see that Real would ever lose 3 matches and Barca to win all the 18 matches. I think Barca will do well to concentrate on Champions League and the Esp Cup. With their injuries problem, it is a high order to ask their star players to play twice every week with consistent level of performance.
But as we all know the saying that the ball is round, there is still hope for Valencia to catch up on Barca as they are separated only by 10 points. February 19th is the date that Barcelona plays Valencia at home. Can't wait to watch the La Liga runners-up decider!

I feel if it is possible for Valencia to catch up with Barcelona, it's even much more possible for Barcelona to topple Real Madrid currently occupying the first position on the la liga table.
What has befallen Barcelona can happen to Real Madrid. Therefore, if Real Madrid lose a match and draw two and Barcelona win three matches, Barcelona will catch up with Real Madrid. Is this not possible?

I agree with jkct that Champions League would be the big fish that Barca would be hunting for this season. Regarding Valencia catching up with Barcelona, I also agree with emmanola that there is more chance of Barcelona catching up with Real than Valencia catching up with Barca.
Cheers!

Of course all is still possible with 18 matches to play. But the odds are on Real Madrid for sure to win the title for its consistency dealing with weaker oppositions this season while Barcelona have lost points drawing games. If it keeps on the trend, Valencia does stand a chance to move closer. It will be more evident if Valencia can somehow beat Barcelona to slash Barca's lead to 6 points.

Big teams slump sometimes and that's what happened to Barcelona! With seven points difference between Real Madrid and Barcelona and some eighteen matches (I think) left to play, the contest is far from being over. I agree that it is more difficult now for Barcelona to topple their arch rivals, Real Madrid, at the summit of the la liga table; it is not an impossibility. Anyway, I feel that the loss of points by Barcelona and Real Madrid to other teams in the la liga can only make the league more competitive.

too much playing can cause mental and physical fatigue and as we know they are best then surely they will rise again on the top.

I think Real Madrid will be a champion without a doubt. To say more Real Madrid will win against Barcelona at Camp Nou.They are very good and getting better all the time game after game! Barcelona is also in excellent form this year but not enough for the title.
