Complaint I made at the hospital

I made a complaint to the head nurse of the hospital about what I observed from some of their nurses. I can not pinpoint the nurse who did a certain act. Cotton balls were left at the bedside of my mom. A nurse handed the cotton balls that she used for my mom for us to throw. A nurse ordered us to wash the container used to measure the urine contents. We just didn't mind these. I told the head nurse about this and she told me that these were not the correct ways for the nurse to do.

File a complaint. You shouldn't have to do any of that. It is the nurse's job to throw that stuff away, and you should never have to wash out a urine container. I have never heard of that being done. Those containers should be plastic, and the lab should handle that, not you or the nurse. That nurse should be fired.

Where I come from, if a nurse did something like that, then I would file a complaint as soon as possible because what that nurse did is grounds for being fired.

Hi, pahak.
Sounds like you suffered a lot of pain. Is there one or more nurses behaving that bad to you? If some or even many nurses are like that, I am afraid that the best way out is to transfer to another hospital, since the atmosphere is hard to change merely by talking their leader. However, if others are nice to you, I think negotiating with that nurse or the head nurse is a good idea like what you did. Ask for the reasons. If she did that occasionally, then why not have a talk and forgive her this time?
Best regards to you and your mom.

Yes I had a talk with the head of the team at the nurses' station right after they were reprimanded by the head nurse. We made apologies with each other and when my mom was discharged from the hospital we parted with good atmosphere. We had forgiven each other already.

I think a nurse can always ask and if you agree there is no problem. These are not things you should do but you are able to do them and it gives them more time to help out other patients.
I don't know if a complaint to the head nurse will work? I assume there are so many nurses and they will change shifts as well.
The only option you have is to refuse to do it or if you want to complain seriously you have to do it to the hospital so officially (we have a form for that).

Yes that was the case, we agreed to what the nurse asked us to do. There was no problem before, that only happened when I had a talk with the Head Nurse. We were only talking lightly about the patient but I didn't know how it began but our topic reached to this and she told me that the nurse was supposed to clean the dirt he/she made. We were even silent as to the cotton balls that they left after administering the medicines that they gave to my mom. We discovered the used cotton balls when we turned our mom to the right or left. My mom laid on used cotton balls. I'm not planning to make a complaint seriously, I'm just writing this in order to release what I felt after my talk with the head nurse.

hi there pahak627,
That is correct since you are a paying customer at the hospital you should be treated with respect and courtesy i am a nurse and i disapprove of this practices, it is not only not right but also unethical i am disappointed with that nurse.

hello there deodavid, we had talk with the nurses at the station and they apologized to me and at the same time I also apologized because I didn't intend to have them reprimanded. At the same, they thanked me for that at least they are aware of their mistakes, according to them. At least we had already settled our differences and I just hope they will not do that to the other patients.
