Do you ever stop reading a book halfway through because it just sucks?

LOL Probably a dumb question. But for me, I just started reading a 'chick lit' book after finishing a crime/mystery novel, and I just have not been able to get into it. It's so cheesy and uninteresting that I am on page 60 and I think I'm just going to call it quits. Giving up on a book only on page 60 seems a little premature. But I just don't think it can get any better from what I've read.
Have you ever done this?
What was the last book you 'gave up' on reading?

Yes, I have. And it was Shadowmancer, I think the name was. By some guy named GP Taylor. Though rather than just quitting completely, I just skipped pages and pages at a time (and eventually just skipped right to the end) to see if the writing improved. It didn't. Got to the end that way.
Didn't know it was Christian fiction when I bought it, since it wasn't obvious from the description at the back of the book. I know there's probably some good Christian fiction out there, and I've even read some that I thought was okay, but Shadowmancer ain't one of them. Unless maybe it's aimed at particularly dumb kids or something, in which case I might be judging it too harshly.
The writing is pretty awful, with the dialogue seeming like the characters are reading off a script. A bad script. That keeps talking about God. Not at appropriate moments, which would actually be quite fine. I don't have problems with writers including deities in their stories if they do it well. But quite often in this book, people talk not to communicate, but to set up the stage for someone to talk about God.
Rather generic good vs evil story, with generic characters. Nothing particularly interesting or relatable about them, since they're all just wooden God-preaching puppets.
So, yeah. Awful book, and I gave up on it. Currently reading another awful book which I bought because I thought it was horror. It turned out to be... something else... I think it's just the author writing out his male fantasies of... stuff. You can guess what stuff. Only plodding through because I'm still hoping the promised horror is somewhere down the line. It probably is, but it's also probably going to be disappointing.

Once!
In my old job, where I had to travel most of the time, I would usually get a book to read when I had to travel by plane. I know there are movies on the plane, but sometimes a good reading makes the time even go faster.
Anyway, I was once reading a book (by a famous author, who I couldn't remember now) about a football quarterback playing in Italy. Aside from the plot that really sucked, I also found out that the book itself was missing a few pages in the middle.
I gave up!

I do not the name of the last book I read because I gave up reading but started it again recently. I never usually stop reading a book halfway. During the first few chapters would already be enough to tell you if it did not interest you. When I read, I indulge in the story and imagine alot of things. It would be difficult to stop reading the book when halfway into it because you would already be at its climax. I tend to be more interested after knowing more about the story and that makes it difficult for me to stop.

I don't remember what the book was, but this has happened to me a few times. There are so many books out there it would be pointless to read one just because I think I should.

I have lost interest in books and started reading other books, I do usually go back eventually and finish them though. Although I was just cleaning out my closet and I found a book with a book mark in it that I apparently started reading and never finished. I looked back at a few pages and I remembered the book. I will probably finish it now after I read the other three books I want to get read. Right now I am reading Against the Wind by, Kat Martin so far it is holding my interest pretty well.

I have to say that I have only ever done this with a book once in my life before. I hate buying a book and then deciding that I don't like it, because it's just money down the drain then. The book in question was a horrible one, though. I bought it because it was recommended by a tutor on my course because it was a novel but based around what we were doing in our course. I soon found that the language was far too complicated and dry for me to be able to understand it, so I stopped reading it and started something that I would like instead.

I borrow many books at library, but I don't finish all of them. Some of the books that I find look interesting at first, but they turn out to be a waste of time. Some time ago I was at the library and by coincidence I found a book behind a movie that I really like. I was excited and I thought: "I definately want to read that book, the movie is great and the book is probably great, too" I was wrong I didn't enjoy the book at all. It was written in a strange and confusing way and it was very different from the movie. I read about two chapters and then I gave up and returned the book to the library.

There was one book that I gave up on on page 5!
That's because it used deep English. It was probably British, and I am not used to it since I am more comfortable with American English. English isn't my first language you see so sometimes it can be a bit of a challenge.
I did find out that I wasn't the only one who gave up on it because when I fished it out from a box of old stuff, the bookmark was on Chapter 2. Meaning the one who previously read it was only until that point.

I have done that more than I can say.Not because it just sucks, sometimes I find it quite the challenge to finish a book or find time to read in my life right now.I brought rip it up on the plane with me and can only read for about 15 minutes at a time.Maybe I need to get my eyes checked..lol? Not too sureā¦

I have stopped reading many a book for many a reason...
I did have one book that was so bad I went back and read the last few pages just to see where it was going.
I couldn't see how he got from where he was to where it said he was finishing it, and I kept reading.
I also kept going back and reading a few pages sooner at the end of the book but did finally finish the thing.
I do NOT know how it got published - it wasn't a good book, I guess paper really was cheaper back then!
I've seen some books you just have to wonder about - but this one... All I really remember was it was about this guy who traveled back in time to try and keep Samuel Clements (Mark Twain) from starting writing...

I love to read and if a book can not hold my interest for the first two chapters then just stop reading it. I love to read chick lit books and even though most of them are very cheesy I continue to read them for inspiration. What chick lit book are you reading by the way?

I don't, but that's because I usually don't have the patience to put up with a book if it's that bad. If a book doesn't hook me within the first couple of chapters, it's probably not going to hook me at all.
The last book I gave up on reading was a self published romance thing by a local author. I think the story was something like two guys who were sharing the same body fell in love with the same woman. The plot was pretty ridiculous, and it wasn't very well written at all.
