Didn't even notice it.

I was just working on my laptop when a sudden warning popped up that I had about 12 minutes left in battery power. I had no idea that my laptop wasn't being charged.
So I checked the powerbar and realized that it had been shut off. I was not amused. I would have lost what I was working on, I'd been distracted and had left the room for a while.
I want to do a controlled test on the battery to see how long it will last, not an uncontrolled one like the one I just went through.
I hope this doesn't happen again.

I have had that happen with me before. It got unplugged from the back of the laptop and I hadn't even noticed it so I was like "wait what?". I've always had hand me down laptops though i want to get my own new one soon. I don't think the batteries last as long as they really should to be honest.

That was the first thing I checked, but found it wasn't the issue. I've done that several times in the past.

I use to have a laptop that would give me that message even when I was plugged up to electricity. Even when I got a new battery, it still gave me that message. I finally had to take to battery out so the laptop would stay on as long as I needed to use it.

I am not sure exactly how long my battery would last if I ran the computer without being plugged in.I do not like it when I forget to have my laptop plugged in.

Been there, done that...LOL Only, I plug my laptop in at the desk and then when charged I take it elsewhere so I can monitor the battery life. There have been times when I am focused on what I am doing that I dont realize when the battery gets low...thank goodness it tells us. I could be in the middle of printing coupons or typing a discussion here on mylot... or in the middle of an offer on my gpt site. that would be bad it that happened.
Usually when things like this happen we become more aware of it and will watch more for things like this. I am sure it wont happen again.
Happy mylotting.

These things do happen when you are too busy or simply having fun. I have set critical battery level at 25 percent and the Netbook I have starts beeping then. I have also set the sleep function to activate at 10 percent so that I can reactivate the Netbook to save what I have been working on. This gives me enough notice to set things right and carry on my work. The energy management feature in the control panel features these settings in most of the Laptops and Netbooks.

It has happened to me several times but I let it off as simply as it happened. You should check if the application you were using to work on what you were working has an autosave feature. It is very useful and would save tons of information you have inputted in the past 10mins or so depending on the settings. Also, I assume that the laptop you were working on is an older version of the new ones in the market? Laptops nowadays including mine usually go to sleep mode if they are left with around 5% battery so as to be able to save the user's work. It is a built in function that has proved its usefulness several times for me. Though I do not remember laptops that do not go to sleep mode when they are at a low percentage of battery energy, I hope you could enlighten me on that.

hi kris thats one of several reasons why I stick to my old trusty desktop computer. no battery worries just power outages but at least there had not been one for some time. as I am on cable a power outage knocks me off the net and have to reset the modem and the
router too. My son has a laptop and is given him so much trouble.of
course he bought it used so maybe that is part of it of course. I
know laptops can go any where.but sense i am more or less room bound
here my desktop is just fine for me.

Hi there kris182_2000,
Whooaaa, good thing you were able to notice it on time, not all programs that we utilize when working on the computer have back ups on the current thing that we are doing, and it is grueling to re-do everything all over again, so yah check it all always see if your computer is plugged in.
